i recently went and brought some shop snares to start me off snaring just to see if i like it. i know shop ones are not longlasting which is why i ask this question.

 

what d.i.y shop should i buy the wire from????

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

p.s. inless anyone has any spare they can lend (sound abit cheeky i know )

hi i am new to this site and so far its superb................. thanks. i have been looking for good quality snare wire for ages so this is jackpot for me. thanks again. a couple of quick questions. 1, is 6 or 8 strans better for rabbit snares? 2. whats a good method for spinning them. i have a few issues with my homemade snares no being wound tight enough then they fray and need to be replaced.

more a question of 4 or 6 strand lighter for summer and heavie for winter if the rabbits are big or your own preference. i spin mine on a very small scale with one end clamped in mole-grips (held to my bedroom desk with a G clamp) and put the eyelet on a cup hook held in the chuck of a old hand wound drill. this works very well just keep the tension good. obviously snares need replacing after a while but if you can get retensioning in them you can have a few rabbits though before the change. and ian118118 google 'euroguns' and look on there for snare wire they do 500g gram bundle things. and then see if you can get it cheaper anywhere else.actually wait a minute http://www.euroguns.co.uk/acatalog/Fox_snares.html

Ok if your making a few snares, but your paying double using that brass from euroguns per kilo.

i bought 100 kg a few years back off chaplins ,25 kg each for snareman , woodga , peggy and meself, if memory serves it cost about £140 each for , that works out at £5.60 per kg , prices have rocketed since then , but still it was a good saving , if theres plenty of interest , someone should do a deal and sell any surplus

Ok if your making a few snares, but your paying double using that brass from euroguns per kilo.

 

it wasnt that bad when i bought a couple of months back but i agree it expensive but i was me first time spinning snares so i didnt want enough gear to make 1000 odd of them
