Female Harris Hawk

Recommended Posts

I am selling my 07 female Harris Hawk. She weighs nearly 3lb in the Molt, 2lb 5oz flying weight and her hunting weight is 2lb 3oz. Her Parents were imported and she was bred and raised in the UK. I have had her a little lighter, but she will tackle anything at too low a weight! I find her a bit too independent at lower weights, almost having to follow her on. She is very bold and not at all nasty, although she doesn't like my Mrs or Daughter, but then I don't a lot of the time!! I can cuddle and mess with her never having been footed. She will work with my Spaniel and Lurcher fine and I have used her mostly on Rabbits, on the lamp and in the daytime. We have gone after Pheasants but she hasn't been entered to them, so they have took the piss a bit with her. I was going to enter her to Squirrels, except I am not exactly built for climbing Trees, should the need arise. I am not claiming to have caught shed loads with her, but she isn't a pile of shite either. When I have made mistakes and flown her low she has taken Cats and Foxes. She hasn't held them long enough for me to help, thankfully, but she is not afraid, once she attempts something she doesn't 'bait off'. I have closed my eyes and hoped for the best several times. She is Feather perfect, except a few ruffled Tail Feathers, but no breaks, to be expected this time of year. Her Feet are large, clean and free from damage. I wouldn't sell her to someone who is just starting out, for the above reasons, but with time I could see a beginner getting to know her well enough. She can be a little vocal at hunting weight, if she sees me or hears me coming, NOT THE REASON SHE IS FOR SALE. She sits queit and happy on bow Perch, in the living room or outside, weathers really well. I would like £250 for her, which isn't a great deal for a good Bird, but enough for the new buyer to look after her. I am selling because I have an Eagle I am going to put through the Molt and put more time to next year, with him being two years old then and I am busy with other things right now too, so FHH not flown enough to justify keeping her here.

I think this is a very comprehensive description of her and totally honest, although someone is bound to want to know something else I haven't thought of. I am in the south west and happy to meet people locally to fly her, with enough time to get her on correct weight. Don't expect to come and get a free days hunting though and tyre kick, or I will do the kicking!

Edited to say I have been Ferreting with her and she has caught from the Fist. I keep the Ferrets right on top of her weathering, BUT I wouldn't fully trust her, on weight, not to attempt to take a Ferret. She gets in 'the zone'

I do not know when they were imported or where from, never concerned me, my Eyes were my guide, I never really cared as she was a nice impressive Bird, although he did say they had had several offspring. If I thought her Parents had any relevance to this advert I would of found out more about them.
