Don't give up on them, they may be eating there way out of a stopend as we speak! Edited February 1, 2009 by Brimmer Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
I had a really crap start to the season, all my nets got stolen from my shed, purse nets and a 100mtr longnet and poles, so I thought I would just buy 20 purse nets to start me off again, then my MK2 locator packed up, so I thought f**k it, I lent a mate and his son 2 ferrets each and a good looking lass down the road from me had one of her pets die, so I gave here my last jill to keep her other company, and as far as I was conserned I was done with ferreting, anyway I took in two rescues from some old git, so I'm sat in the shed wondering what to do with them, only one thing to do really, I bought a new MK3m locator and 20 more purse nets, and have'nt looked back yet, I hope this inspires you to carry on! col g 0
i still want to get out,but it has taken it out of me losing the jills.i had a bit of a breeding programme ready for this season and i wanted to keep my same lines ,as the young jill i lost was one of the kits i bred last year and she turned out to be a cracker.im now stuck with five hob ferrets and no jills.john is after me breeding a couple of my hobs with his jills but it still doesnt compensate for what ive lost.il keep my chin up and see what the future brings i suppose Quote Link to post

Brimmer 220
If you stick on the same land Col it's funny what turns up mate. Got a massive hissing spitting albino hob out of a drop box years ago, he'd been on the run for years by the look of him. Also cornered a poley jill in a rockpile, and got her out, also been running the gauntlet for a few months by the look of things. And just this year had one of the young hobs going toe to toe with something underground, thought it was a stoat at the time, but thinking since as it did not bolt that it may be a feral ferret. They may stick around and have some fun at the rabbits expense yet, catching them up may be a little harder though! If you get 2 spots on the locater now, be carefull how you stick your hand in! If you get 2 spots on the locater now, be carefull how you stick your hand in! i normally wear gloves anyway brimmer and my hands look like theyve been through a shredder anyway so a few more battle scars wont bother me any .when me and john were out a few weeks back we found a poley jill in a sett, instead of using my common sense and getting a spade behind it to stop it from backing into the sett we just put the other ferrets in to see if we could get it out, unfortunatley that didnt work and its still mooching about the place now..i can remember a good few years back finding a big hob poley under my shed.at the time i had my old lurcher and a border terrier.the terrier was going mad at the side of the shed letting me know there was something there..after tearing the floor up i found it .it was fooking huge and had hold of me a few times before i finally subdued it and got it caged up.the terrier was a bit worse for wear aswell as the poley attached it s self to its face a couple of times, luckily for the poley the terrier was placid and never lifted its lips to it...it was quite funny to watch the terrier getting done over off a ferret Quote Link to post
doddsy1970 9
A couple of years ago i lost a ferret in December in a huge bury and in the following march i got a phone call from the farmer saying he saw a ferret in the same place as I had lost mine. I went down clicked my tongue and out come my little poley jill none the worse the wear apart froma couple of ticks. So dont give up hope mate you may still find them. Quote Link to post

John-B 4
Maybe they have stumbled on some leverets, chomp chomp chomp, they will still be there some were. Now that could be a very good explanation! and would explain why the rabbits were screaming like mad and not bolting. Quote Link to post
