Some cracking ratting with Gnipper

Recommended Posts

Alright lads? You know you've had a good day when you're almost too stiff and sore to type :D Gnipper and I set off this morning with his 11 year old Border, 5 month old Lakey/Russell and Lurcher (I'll let him fill in the breeding) and my own 3 year old Sealyham/Russell bitch Gypsy.

Tools of the trade:

My Sealyham/Russell Gypsy checking along the ditches for a hole with someone at home:

Ey up, there's someone in :59: The five month Lakey/Russell (Scrappy) and the Lurcher (Scooby) find one:

"Yep, I've found one!"...

"Me too" :D

Let's dig the dirty fooker out :boxing:

Waiting like a goal keeper for any "ploppers" bolting into the ditch water:

The Border finds again:

Lemme at 'em:

The dogs were sure there was one in here, but we couldn't get it even with the smoker. Plenty of nest material so either it was tucked away safe under the fence line or just a false mark?

Found another in the cover crop (sweetcorn and maize)... Quite a large warren this one as well. We lost two bolters (not for lack of chasing!) and accounted for (I think) another four out of here:

Dig, dig, dig little scotty dog :D

Another result! Scooped up by the white Lakey/Russell pup (Scrappy) again!

Another down

This one clamped Scrappy's nose... He squealed with rage, and Gnasher the auld Border didn't help, yanking it from the other end  The blood's all the pup's, but it didn't put him off...

Guarding the catch:

Result!! This pup loves his rats :bye1:

Thanks again to Gnipper for a cracking day out. My bitch is catching on now, but spends too much time digging (and missing the ones bolting around her!) for my liking. She's keen as mustard on them though and isn't scared of getting bit :boxing: Some more experience and (hopefully) somewhere with a lot of rats should sort her out and give her some smarts.

A great day had by all. That white pup of Gnipper's is an absolute belter - no fear :toast: He'll be one to watch when he's older. Thanks again mate, can't wait to go again 8):drink:

The pups had his rest now and is back to his mad self and eating a full chicken carcase :)

He still hasn't swollen from the bites either, my other dogs used to swell up when they were young and learning the ropes until they got used to it but this one you wouldn't even know he'd been bit.

I'll try and find somewhere better for next week mate. If I end up off work with my back we'll go knocking on some pig or chicken farms ;)
