The Caretaker 0
I have to tell my Gamekeeper that i'm on the land I think that's sensible, but I have heard other sides to that what do you think is safer? I am lucky to have a monster of a shoot and there could be shot gunners rimi users or center fire users or ferreters on when i'm on, so what my GK does is separate us, so there is no chance of me getting my pretty little head removed! But some people think that you should just trust the other people on the shoot to be experienced enough not to take your head off! i'd rather not take the chance what do you think? Quote Link to post
gazguildford 0
phoning ahead can only make things safer and in my opinion although people should be experienced enough to be careful the game keeper is being very responsible and doing a great job! Quote Link to post
jamiethehunter 0
If the shoot is shared between other firearms users then i think you should allways phone ahead i wouldn't want to get hurt and i wouldn't want to hurt anybody else. Quote Link to post
Timelord 0
Insurance BASC etc etc will be in order if you shoot with other people and phoning ahead can only help. I have one shoot shared with a couple of other shooters and one guy we nick named stealth because he uses night vision on his 17HMR likes to know where we are with lamps. Maybe it's worth while getting to know the other shooters too, so you can exchange numbers and know what part of the shoot each person is using..... Quote Link to post
Malt 379
It's not about trusting them not to shoot you, you've got to remember that a ricochet from a rifle can travel a fair old distance, and still be lethal. It's only common sense that you let people know when you are there if there's the possibility that others might be shooting there. Quote Link to post
davyt63 1,845
HI caretaker i always phone ahead simple reason is safety, and always ring for a URN just in case of complaints then, they know were i am and ring what time i leave. some of my permissions are golf clubs and business parks, hotel so a lot of people passing.so a quick call is best i have had the ARU turn up on my permission and not a nice experience regards davy Quote Link to post
mad al 146
Sounds like common sense to me Quote Link to post

The one 8,487
We'Ve got to phone the police and get a incident number every time we do one bit of ground but i reckon its a waste of time as the armed responce will still turn out if they get a phone call Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
A mate was doing a bit of walking up on a hedge, he only realised some one else was doing the same because his dog laid into the other shooters dog on the other side of the hedge, if it saves getting your head blown off, then maybe a phone call should be made, I do. Fidgety 8
Always on my sole permissions, out of courtesy! Always on shared permissions out of safety! Quote Link to post
The Caretaker 0
Well i tell you something that's really scary, On another forum i'm involved in there is actually an Admin who says that you should NEVER phone ahead, How scary is that!!!! He even said that he'd been almost shot twice by other shooters on his shoot at the same time as him! it Beggars belief! How can people believe that it could be safer to keep it a secret if your out shooting! Quote Link to post
ghillies 209
ring in... they need to know for a reason, even if it's just because theyre nosey.. saves um running over and catching you every time. (and lets you know when something out the ordinary pops up, like some one full bore'ing your patch.. and vice versa...etc). Quote Link to post
