akton 15
hi all. i've recently moved fomr rural north wales to not so rural nottingham! my guns are still at address in wales and i want to move them here. so what do i need to do? get in touch with both police forces? will there be any problems moving to city area? If I were you try and find a RFD to hold onto your guns for you in Nottingham shire, whilst you inform the police that you are moving home and need to get the FEO to have a look at your cabinet which by then will be secured to a wall. best way to do it mate Quote Link to post
yorksjt 0
When I moved, in between moves I lived at my parents for six months I informed the police of what was happening and they just told me to give them my new address once I had it. So only had to change it once, they were really good with it all. Quote Link to post

Deker 3,478
Can't remember exactly, I moved about 4 years ago, I think you have 7 days to advise police of move, (check with the region) I advised police (letter) of the move and they simply rang and asked if the cabinet was in place and properly fixed...not even a visit.....just make sure you let everyone know who needs to ASAP!! andyf 144
Hi: Your issue will be that you are 'moving' to a new/different Police authority, you won't have a problem as long as your certificate(s) are current. You MUST inform BOTH Police authorities that you have moved, and from where to where! The problem you may encounter is when your renewal comes up, you have been used to a rural Police presence, now you are in 'town' things may get a bit more intense. I assume your shooting permissions are still relevant in your 'old' location, these are valid (even though they maybe hours of driving away, you could do well to keep these intact). You need to ASAP install your Security Cabinet in your new house and offer the local FLO an opportunity to review it, at the same time (if possible) explain how you intend to continue your shooting in this new location, even if this is travelling back to your previous area. If you have an FAC for Deer Stalking, or .22 for Rabbits etc this may be a bit more 'awkward' so make sure you have the answers they want to hear. If you do not currently have BASC (or Equal) membership I strongly suggest you get it ASAP, as Bill Harriman (BASC) will help you out with the above. All the best. AF Quote Link to post

CharlieT 32
It actually states on the front of your fac what you have to do. See condition 3....... The holder of the certificate must, without undue delay, inform the chief officer of police by whom the certificate was granted of any change in his permanent address. Obviously when you move your security arrangements must be secure. You should install your cabinet as soon as you move in etc. Write to your issuing firearms department informing them of your new address. They will pass your file on to the new firearms department who will contact you and issue you with a replacement fac and they may make a home visit to check your security arrangements. There is no need at this stage to contact your new HQ. Be warned if your new county have different rules on conditions such as not allowing a particular caliber for fox or vermin they will apply "their" interpretation of the guidelines to your newly issued fac.
