Simoman 110
Tarmac, if your just pottering about a Fourtrak, Isuzu Trooper or a Shogun would be good, trouble is there all thirsty Do you have to have a 4 x4?
MickC 1,825
For a cheap 4x4 which also has cheap insurance you could go for a Suzuki SJ or a Daihatsu Sportrac. Both models are pretty decent off road and cheap enough to run even though both these models are petrol.A couple of my mates have had these over the years and swear by them.If you want to spend a bit more of your dosh you can pick Discoverys up for a good price these days but it all depends on what you are wanting to pay for the running costs and insurance etc

Reasonable price range anything under £2500? Been thinking about getting a fourtrak- any suggestions? Help me out lads! Hello Tarmac I have owned this Pajero for a good couple of years and its been perfect for me and never let me down, I went through some boggy meadow land last year with another lad who had a old Landy and he got stuck but the good old Pajero powered straight through no sweat, I'm not blaming his Landy I think he got stuck due to going through far to slow near to a standstill, the good thing about these pajero's too is they are loaded with adjustable suspension <Soft/Medium/Hard>, Climate control, Locking Diff and Hubs all from the inside of the Veihcle via a seperate gear lever, its also got a power switch to give is extra go should you need it plus all the electric gimicks, plus Compass and Temperature and its quiet which is good while road driving, they do them in a 2.5 engine and the one I have hear with a 2.8 Intercooler engine which will get you out of any trouble . This will be up for sale in a couple of Months or so on a M - Plate, I'll be taking off the Private plate for another car, its done around 90,000 Miles and runs perfect, asking price £2600, they are a bit on the thirsty side if you're used to driving a good economical car, this will average on a run around 28MPG or slightly better depending how you drive it, off road it comes down considerably to the earley 20's. I told the lad we was off over over the meadow and I could see he had bottled it before he got back in the cab, the meadow is more like the swamp on the "Hound Of The Bastervile" film covered in swamp Grass than meadow, he got about 30 feet into it and bang! he was sunk to his Chassie, I though Feck it and carried on going cause I can't stop now and cleared the lot, I then had to take a short cut with four of us in along the edge of a plouged field which was soaked to get to the farmer to drag out the Landy with his John Deer Tractor 4 x 4, it fecked alot of the day up to be Honest but I think what helped me was this thing is loaded with 275/70's and 16 inch wheel rims which gives it a fair bit of ground clearence, I can stick a bucket under this to change the oil without jacking it no probs;), I must admit I love the Bloody great thing but now need more of a family car to keep the missus happy . Cheers Tony Hello Tarmac No probs mate. Its waxed oiled underneath and clean and solid from the inside out, plus I'll stick 12 months ticket on it. I'll stick it on hear first aswell as probably the Auto Trader and Free Ads later, when I stick it on I'll put a good few more pic's up of it from Inside and outside. Hello Jamesy You're right. I looked into these motors before I brought this one and the 2.5's have a rubber belt but the 2.8's are chain driven. Its got some real grunt in it and will also quite happily cruise at 70mph, the other thing I had to have fitted to bring the Insurance down was a Selca Thatcham aproved Imobilizer, when you show the Insurance company the certificate that come with it you'll get a much better quote plus alot of Insurances won't touch the car without it . MIKE 18
Actually the fact that the 2.8 is chain drive doesn't give you the security that you think. My 2.5 is belt driven and has to be changed at service times but people think that the chain doesn't have to be maintained on the 2.8 and I know of at least 3 mates that have had the chain snap ............ the guy that works on mine is a mate and said the 2.5 is a better engine than the 2.8 even though it has a little less grunt but as long as you get the chain checked regularly you should be ok ..........oh and the 2.8 can also melt number one piston too also costs about £2000 to rebuild the engine if it goes
jasper65 6
Can't say I have ever heard of any of the things you quote Mike. Had mine for a couple of years now without missing a beat , If you go on this site there's alot of Pajero Mechanics who speak highly of the 2.8 compared to the 2.5, Its worth a look as these guys know their stuff which is why I chose the 2.8 in the first place . http://www.pocuk.com/forums.htm
