Broke that one when he was about 3 I suppose. I think he was scared of them more than anything

The bitch I had couldn't be trusted though. She was fine when you were there but she'd always check to see if you were looking

Good pic that Stabs, you did well IMO to get that type of dog broken at the age of 3, in regards to the original question I think you'll have trouble trusting older terriers with a ferret, i think they'd regard it as quarry no matter what. Older lurchers don't seem to be as difficult to break...

best to start them young as possible, like tiny pups. helps if you know someone with a big mean hob who'll give pup a nip if he gets too 'energetic'! but it's always best to be careful, dont leave terrier with anything small and fluffly unless you really have to!

our 9yr old JRT bitch is great around ferts, yet only introduced to them a couple years back, can trust her 100% but our JRT x plummer dog is not allowed anywhere near the ferts, cannot be trusted, as already stated, if they have had rats, that makes it harder

Hi lad I broke my six year old jack russel and my three year old staffy in to my pet rabbits during the summer. it took a full week and i lost a couple of rabbits but they eventually stoped. and these dogs both go bushing for wild rabbits and it has made no difference to their drive on a hunt. Perseverence. put the dogs on a lead and every time they look at the ferrets turn them upside down on their backs and hold them securely for a minute and give them a tip on their nose. repeat this everytime they look at them, they will learn. gradually bring the ferrets closer. also put some of the ferret bedding in their kennels to get them used of being relaxed and sleeping amongst the scent of them. hope this helps.

rabbits and ferets are different, :hmm: both our jrt's are fine around our son's pet french lop rabbit, its about the same size as them, both the dogs get fed rabbit, yet they dont try eating the pet one, ferts are smaller, rat looking, the dog would rip mine to bits

you dont say what terriers you got. thier all diffrent. my jacks are very good with ferret but my lakey even from 10 week old just wouldnt have it .iv tried very hard to make them bond but it aint never gonna happen. hes two now . an im sure if i left him alone for long enough he would chew through the wire and kill every ferret for fun.. still dont make him a bad dog he just dont kike small furry things . or big furry things come to that... but its a shame .he will never no the world of fitchin. weres my two russells love it .....but i wouldnt change him for the world....
