Good mate of mine had two saluki grey crosses, on bunnies it became boring because it was too easy, on hares fantastic bit of coursing and a catch at the end of it, on foxes caught them no probs but would say they were a bit surprised when they bit back, they were two brothers from same litter one wanted to please all the time the other only when in the mood but when he was he was exceptional overall great cross .All pre ban of course

not really an opinion as such, more of an uneducated guess really....

 

but is it just me or is there an abundance of saluki/greyhound x bull/greyhounds popping up.... is the reason for a cross to bull/greyhound with the hope of getting a dog that can take fox??? if i was to rear a pup to take fox i dont think the thought of a saluki would have entered my head...

Single handed Saluki cross. Not many foxes will out run him !

whaqts that dogs exact breeding?looks a good un.

 

He's bred off a quality coursing dog called Chisel (RIP) to a very game bull cross bitch called Skip. Both dogs would take all game. Burnie69 bred the dog.

my saluki takes fox day and night. He picks his shots though so some get away but his speed and nose make up for that though.

On the country estate/game farm i work on,pre ban we used to do fox control on the lamp with a friends bitch saluki/grey x whippet/grey and my friend also ran a saluki x saluki /grey.The saluki/grey x whippet/grey bitch was started of with the 3/4 cross doubled up and also a other friends 5/8 bull/grey so she knew no different.I surpose its how the dog is entered that counts and running with a bull grey and the 3/4 saluki on charlie pre ban made her think it was normal i surpose and made her a dexterous single handed fox catcher in her time.

hi all been talking to an old bloke who keeps\breeds greyhounds and he said that people used to use salukis beffore bullxes came on the seen. just wanting to know did anyone ever have a good saluki on fox ?

 

 

salukis are the oldest breed of dog in the world so i can well beleve they were used for fox

can tell you about a 1st cross i owned back in the 's this dog "Willow" killed many foxes both single handed and doubled up

he was a superb catching dog, in those days we were catching foxes for their pelts which fetched up to 29 quid each (then),

the dog was brought down from Wales by a mate of mine L.R who sold it to my other mate W.S, "Willow " was only for sale

due too his ability to kill cats this was not appreciated by the old lady he belonged to, but certainly appealed to us, we took

him out that night and he caught and killed single handed on his first run, we went on that night to kill 2 more foxes with him

running doubled up, we were out at that time 5,6 or even 7 nights a week whatever the weather and he was responsible for

accounting for many many foxes, as many as 8 in a night not the hardest dog i've ever seen but worth his weight in gold,

so yes saluki x g/hounds will catch/kill foxes ....well some will ! ....but we should refrain from generalisation of breeds as

they are all individuals and have differing qualities, i must concede though that not many dogs at that time could stick the

amount of work on heavy quarry we were giving them and MANY quit, this was the dawning of a new era and the pitbull x

was born to reduce, infact probably eliminate the problem of dogs quitting when pushed to the extreme over a long period.

had a mates saluki while he was on holiday and my dog put a fox up and his show bred pet dog ran it and nailed it and that was the first it had ever seen.

my mate wasnt over pleased.

horses for courses - its what peoples * prefered* breed of dog is , ive seen most take fox , collie x , saluki x, bull x , bitzas . its the heart of a dog that takes the fox , not the breeding . ive seen an 18 '' whippet x bedlington smash a fox in good kill time also ,

all this hype about differnt breeds can only do certain tasks , its all opinions , .........

I HAD A FIRST CROSS SALUKI GREYHOUND BITCH,24 INCH AND VERY GAME FOR HER SIZE, SHE COULD ABSOLOUTLEY DESTROY FOXES, I DONT THINK THAT I WOULD GET ANOTHER ONE LIKE HER AGAIN, BUT I WOULD SAY FIRST CROSS SALUKI GREYHOUND, A FRIEND OF MINE HAD THE SAME CROSS, A DOG AND THAT WERE THE SAME
