warlock 0
Firstly hello. I have been shooting clays for 7 years and have decided to get into Pigeon shooting, i have been given permission to shoot 1600+ acres of mixed farmland, rape, wheat/grain, peas & spuds. is this a respectable sized area to shoot? there are small areas of trees and the odd woods here and there and the farmer has said anything is ok to shoot so long as it is covered by general licence. Does this sound like a good oppurtunity? the farmer only has me that can shoot during the week but he has said that if i can shoot the odd weekday as a thankyou he will give me first refusal on the weekends. I wanted to get just the one big permission just incase i ended up with more than i can handle and end up dissapointing one farmer because i`m busy elsewhere. I have a hide net the type you can see through and some poles, was thinking on starting with 12 decoys mix of shell and whole with legs, just to get me started. Lastly i don`t want alot of pigeons as i can`t use alot, this being the case what do i do with the excess? also any magpies etc, i can`t find a game dealer around Dover to buy them and the farmer wants some but there will be some left over, the problem is what do i do with the leftover? and the non edible birds. Thankyou in advance. Quote Link to post

warlock 0
Got my permit and map this morning, very nice farmer, says if i see an ongoing concern with rabbits & pigeons in perticular in a certain field let him know and he will get one of his farmhands to build me a permanent hide, which even i know with my limited experience is bloody great. Now the hard part, i only have a shotgun certificate and the farmer has said if i want to shoot rifle at night or daytime for rabbits then go ahead, just at night let him know and inform the police, i don`t have a firearms licence as i still have 4 weeks to go before i get my full membership at a target club then i can apply for my firearms licence but for target shooting. The farmer says he has no more space for closed cert firearms tickets but open is fine, but from what i understand to get an open ticket you need some years behind you. Can anyone help? Should i just get a standard air rifle for rabbits or not worry about it at the moment and just use a 30/32 gramme 6 cartirdge for the pigeons and rabbits? Also it`s 1600+ acres alot is around an old colliery, no houses for a long distance so shotgun noise not a problem. Edited January 28, 2009 by warlock Quote Link to post
