I took my whippet out watching on the lamp at 5 months, did him no harm at all. He watched the lamp intently and it will give you a good idea of how keen they are. Only thing i would say is, if your dog starts yapping with excitment or fustration...take him home as you dont want him to pick up bad habbits. My pup caught his first rabbit from his first slip at 6.5 months old, hes 8 months now and thats the only time hes been out, thought that was enough for a young dog, im now waiting until hes about a year.

At 6 months of age I would be concerntrating on building up basic skills like a strong recall, retreiving to hand and jumping small fences etc. I guess no harm will come to the pup by going along and watching the proceedings, but the temptation may be there to slip and at this time of year the rabbits that are left over that havent been killed off by weather/predators/myxy/vhd and other lampers, will be wily and fast, perhaps a bit much for a young pup? my pup is just turning 8 months old and I wouldnt take her lamping as I dont feel she is ready, and shes a decent size and shape, around 23" tts, but each to their own.

I agree far too early to work.......more dogs are ruined by entering too early than by anything else in my opinion.....after all you wouldn't send a boy to do a mans work would you?......Take the dog along and let it watch the action....this can be beneficial to its development......as it will make it keen as mustard to join in. ;)
