The Guild of British Molecatchers

Recommended Posts

Hi All

How many molecatchers on here have registered with the guild (http://www.guildofbritishmolecatchers.co.uk/)?

It looks really good, Jeff Nicholls has put in alot of hard work on the site, and best of all, its FREE!

There seem to be a few amateur molecatchers registered too, which has got to be good.

C'mon lads and lasses, sign up!

not wanting to piss on ya fire matt , but they are advertising what looks like cheap copies of traps on that site ,i should think they would be better off insisting on good quality traps to keep the job humane

Hi Matt just registered good site that, waiting to join the British Traditional Molecatchers also, gone gas free now since 2008

Great news HoW. The more the merrier.

I agree Moley. The 'crapman' seems to get everywhere these days. I guess the more people that join, the more chance we will have to influence.

Out of interest, there are a couple of other similar sites.

The Mole Control Directory offers stuff for sale as well as a 'finder' service so that people can find a mole trapper. Only full time mole catchers are allowed to join, which means that as I'm a pest controller, I'm not entitled (despite the fact that the majority on there are in fact pest controllers). E-mails have been exchanged, and it seems that if you have anything to do with pest control, you are persona non grata.

The British Traditional Molecatchers Register is another organisation for mole trappers that aims to put potential customers in touch with mole trappers. It costs £75 per year to join, but seems quite professional looking. They also have 'approved' products.

I've been really impressed with the Guild so far. Jeff is very prompt in replying to any enquiries, and seems to have the interests of moles and molecatchers at heart. I would think that the more people who join up and support, the more chance there is of success.

Joined a while ago and happily did the accreditiation tests as they really helped me to learn the finer points about moles and traps.

By talking about The Guild I've met a couple of professional molers who wouldn't have given me the time of day as an amateur.

Funningly enough, once they found out what I'd been doing i.e. learning via the Guild, they have both been teaching me those little tricks that aren't written down!

I got given a couple of days out helping on 'professional jobs' on some really sh**y sites that showed me various different traps and their uses. OK I and they know that I was cheap (free) labour BUT what I learnt was worth it's weight in gold.

I looked at the The British Traditional Molecatchers Register but won't be shelling out £75 as that's either a lot of traps or a large chunk of the public liability insurance fee.

It's a bit strange really. The Guild offers free advertising, knowledge, and Jeff (who seems to be quite a guru regarding moles) all for free. It helps set standards through knowledge and education and just not by taking money to 'look professional'.

No contest really.

As for Jeff himself, more power to him!

Last time I saw Jeff was at a country show with a mole puppet .....I listened for a bit, but couldn't take it any more.

Ref the trapman advert ........ those dufus lookalikes dont look good at all. Why would a pro mole catcher allow links to fake traps?

i joined ages ago, got some stuff through the door, about it all.

and thats it, it hasn't got me any more work , in fact it aint made one bit of diffrence .

same here mate seems a waste of time the giuld is trying to change the law so that you have to check mole traps every day i find it enough checking 200 traps a day let alone all 400 of my traps and as for the other lot charging £75 to join them better of keeping that in your pocket or buying more traps

Got to admit I've had a fair bit of work of the site! :D:D

Had 4 golf course contracts & half a dozen domestic gardens......So I'm ALL for it!!

Also I don't see why Mole trapping should be any different from any other form of trapping as regards the checking of traps....I personally think it should be law that they're checked Daily

Hi,

just drop them an email with your details and anything you want to advertise eg area covered , additional services and they will put it on the find a molecatcher area.

Mine was done very quickly.

Excellent service considering there is no charge, so even a single job is a bonus.
