hi im just wondering if any of you guys have had a jill that bites [bANNED TEXT] you try and get her out of the nest box any other time she is gr8t to handel and wont bite its only if you try and get her out of the box any info would be gr8t

I had a jill who used to do that so when i opened the box i used to let her smell my fist first, just as i do before i pick her when she comes out a warren.

It may be something else but just thought id let you know!

i never take my ferrets satraight out off the nest accept for an albino i had about 2 years ago had too take out of the nest looked dead

Hi there, is she expecting a litter?

If so expect them to get real cranky about being handled, especialy around the nesting area.

It realy is common sense and dont forget if she has a litter, dont keep pearing in the box to take a look and even more important dont handle the little tykes until their a good few weeks old.

My first jill dropped last night, this is a last years kit, went up to the court this morning and heard them in there so left it be until this afternoon (feeding time) put the grub in and let the jills come out to feed and lifted the lid on the breeding nest box and almost had a finger taken off

Now these jills are trustworthy girls, feck they have been handled so much this season, but it realy is touchy at this time of year.

I did manage to get a quick peep inside and saw a mere 3 kits in there, these black eyed whites dont seem to knock many youngens out for some reason. I remember years ago with the long ole whites (some call em greyhound ferrets) they used to have big old litters, anything up 10-12 kits at a time.

I expect more from the polecat crosses.

last night the little bitch sunk her teeth in good, actually make my finger squirt blood, i tell ya she nearly got knocked on the head for that

 

just have to handle her more, bloody breeders dont handle them when they are young :realmad:

I know what you mean, the old school breeders dont handle the ferrets My first hob was a crazey b*****d and took alot of handling to get him good.

I cant wait till i get some kits, and start getting some working lines going. Im sure ppl will be interested in working ferrets, But i will handle these so they are not savage little buggers

thanks guys no she not in seson and out of the box she is gr8t couldnt ask for better ferret to handel just as soon as you try getting her out the box she tags you good and hard i just let her come out of the box frist and dont have any probs thanks for the replys

hi mate your right about breeders not handling their kits,i have just purchased two jills they are nine weeks old and they nip and bite every time i pick them up but they are getting better.Every time they try to bite i force my knuckle down the mouth or flick their nose it seems to be working they are not as bad as when i first got them.
