runforyourlife 361
Not sure if i actually caught on that particular jack bait valleylad. As i often use them on lomond and other waters also. I think my best on lomond on a jack is 28lb+. My partner however had a 34lb on jack, but that was in deep water further up the loch...pal. I ask because i have a fish caught by one of my customers here, that has the exact same markings and is identical to this one, lol. Wondering if it is the same fish. We once had a a 30lber out of the bay, then my mate and his mate caught it all in the same month, lol... That looks like it was caught on the straight at balma,or just a t the beginning of the bay, not actually in it, correct me if i am wrong nid. Message me, cheers Russ. PM sent Russ, atb NID. They are a good dead bait, so they are not wasted if they do die, and usually they dont die, and are released.... half pounders and worth it really valleylad, you might as well put a roach or perch or carp on. We use the ones in bewteen a pound and half to two and a half.. Quote Link to post

J Darcy 5,871
Just as an aside, incidentally i have always hooked livebait through the lip and dorsal so that they "hang" naturally in the water, i notice that the jack was hooked top hook throguh the tail root, is this to give the hooks extra purchace?....just wondering...JD Quote Link to post

There are many many reasons why a jack cant be hooked up through the lip. Think of a jack hooked tail first, it automatically pulls away from the line trying to swim off. Now lip hook it, it is swimming to your line or up it. One snap of its teeth and you have a jack swimming around with a wire trace and 3 or 4 hooks in it... Also you try to unhook a pike, with a jack down its throat. You wont even be able to see it head never mind the hook in its lip, which is way down its throat...... Darcy, dont hook your livebaits in the dorsal. They dont live no where near as long... And for gods sake dont hook them in the top lip, which 90% of pike anglers do. If you hook it correctly, you can use a livey all day, and if it isnt taken you can normally release them to swim away, cheers Pal.. Quote Link to post
