problems once quarry is caught

take your time mate,dont rush him physicaly he may well be able but its down to his mental state and on saying that if hes connected then hes obviously able,on the retrieve keep him away from other dogs let him retrieve well away from lunging dogs he wont want to bring it in the vacinity of others they become realy gelouse of catches.

I agree - work him alone getting him to bring stuff (toys to start with) back to you, just you.

 

Competition leads to jealousy and then the desire to keep the quarry from the other dogs and therefore you.

 

Make it all into a game which you are obviously enjoying too. If you are bored, the dog gets bored very quickly. If you see training as a chore, then so does the dog. If it is part of daily life with enthusiasm, the dog can see the point.

 

They will also work out which buttons to press that wind you up. Do not get disheartened and give up. Most dogs go through the "teenage" years. Turn into Kevin and Perry! Mine all did, you just have to stay consistent and work through it.
