has anyone got any tips for me plz i hav a 6 month old pup and is verry obideant untill it comes to her having a rabbit in her mouth she likes to run around with it for the first 5 minutes [bANNED TEXT] could i do to make her stop running around with it? she will retrive a ball just not a rabbit or skin

only repeat the retrieve once or twice keep her keen on "the game" , if you repeat it to often the pup becomes bored and disinterested in the game, give her an hour or two between sessions to keep her fresh and wanting to do it for the reward

i have exactly the same problem with my 9month old bull greyhound who retrieves balls, toys anything until he caught a rabbit and it was like hunting him to try and get the rabbit back, he was totally ignorant towards me, ive tried taking treats with me and all he wants to do is rag the rabbit all over the field maybe he needs to mature alot more its just so annoying that he is running the lamp perfect and taking rabbits with ease just that part of his trade that is lacking.

I've never had a pup yet that hasn't done a lap of honour with a rabbit in the beginning, especially annoying on the lamp as he scares all quarry in neighbouring countries.... Not found the cure yet, although making a fuss over it seems to have an adverse effect. Best ignoring it me thinks... She'll grow out of it especially once they realise the countryside holds more than just the one rabbit... Had a dog who ran with a rabbit it his mouth and was on another rabbit trying to catch it with his front paws.. Aye, ain't hunting just the biz!!! :notworthy:
