Stuff the books, just ask the guy you obtain your ferrets from, he'll sort you out and show you how he does it, books will only tell you what you already know, common sense stuff like food water hutch, if you get stuck, ask on here. ;)

try simon whitheads new book the essential guide to ferreting, its very well written and has some of the best photos on ferreting to be seen,if anyone is just starting out its a mine of infomation which you can refer back to at any time and with a whole chapter on ferret locaters it will answer the frequently asked question how does the mk3 locater work, cost £20 or if you go on amazon you might get it cheaper, with a book like this, you can refer back to different matters ie locters when your not sure ,aa half day or even a full day even if you cram it full is a lot to take in,what are you looking at choice of ferrets, feeding, housing, handling, equipment, nets purse, long, gate, poke, explaining the differances the differant twines etc, then thers boxes, bags and all the small accesories that we use,not to mention the locater and how to use it,thats before you go ferreting, setting nets entering ferrets ,how to despatch rabbits, permission and the law,and many more subjects on ferreting that take years of learning, half a days tuition or the book theres no comparison really the book wins hands down every time and you can read up when you want ,and when your a clever lad and know it all you can always sell the book and get some money back, all the best jim

Go on your local library website, do a search with the word ferreting and request the books. I've read a few this way and can help you find a book that suits you. Some authors make the subject accessible others don't, also you may want one with extra sections on health and disease, some books only skim this topic.

Books are a great way of knowledge and learning the fundamentals but what they cant teach you is field-craft and the 6th sense that a experienced ferreter will have. I personally would recommend that you get as much literature as you can and read it, ask questions on here because there are quite a few experienced and knowledgeable folks on here and they will put you on the right path (or confuse the hell out of you :D ) and try to team up with someone who has experience and who can show you the ropes. Remember that knowledge can be gained from books but experience cannot.
