Mr_Logic 5
I have a T8-AR on mine, good balance, good sound moderation, decent price. The predator 8 does a similar job but is strippable for cleaning, so that might be a better choice. P8 didn't fit the screw cut of my particular rifle, and the T8 works a charm. Quote Link to post
silver_fox 0
Here's my CZ527 varmint .223 wearing a T8 mod and Leupold 8.5-25 x 50 on fox patrol. No foxes shot on this particular outing but I did get a rabbit at 250yds which I used as fox bait. (unfortunately the fox ate the bait when I went to get my horses in!) BUT.... the next night I went out with the .17hmr and got two of the blighters from about 20yds. Quote Link to post

Also how would you describe the sound that is left from your moderated 223 as opposed to an unmoderated one on a scale of one to ten. ten being the loudest sound coming from the unmoderated rifle. Thanks and sorry if it is a bit confusing Quote Link to post

Thanks and sorry if it is a bit confusing A rabbit shot at any distance with a centrefire is suitable for the pot, if you hit it in the right place...the ammo obviously has an influence, but the reality is a head shot (which will remove the head in most cases) will leave a very edible body. Shoot a bunny in the body with a ballistic tip and you will tend to pebbledash most of the county! Most centrefire sound moderators will give a sound reduction of about 26-28db...give or take a bit, depending on the mod, the calibre, the ammo, the barrel, etc, etc!! That is a lot, but most would agree that the sound left is not exactly quiet! Quote Link to post

Thanks and sorry if it is a bit confusing It's hard to describe the difference between a moderated and un-moderated .223, but I'll try. Without a mod on your ears will ring for a while (not to mention the potential damage to your hearing). With a mod on all you hear is the 'crack' as the bullet goes supersonic and a tinny little bang, but your actual appreciation of the reduction can vary as to the specific situation. If you are surrounded by hills then the sound can echo back to you, the same can happen shooting near woodland, or (as I realised a while ago) when the adrenalin is up due to the close proximity of a fox and the knowledge that you have to make a clean and instant kill, then you hardly notice any sound at all. So it's quite difficult to give you a 1-10 figure. Quote Link to post
