jamiethehunter 0
Whilst i don't agree with shooting a .22 up into a tree. Without actually seeing the shooter and the land on which he's shooting and the gun and ammo he's using it's not fair to pass comment on it. It is possible he could be taking perfectly safe shots likewise he could be taking dangerous shots. I think this is a case of if your a novice or unsure don't do it but an experienced seasoned shooter can do it safely. Quote Link to post
cyclonebri1 8
I've got something to add to this one. It happened a good few years ago. Was after a few bunnies and sat under a couple of larch trees. Fot those not in the know these are the only deciduous conifers in the UK. I was back up to to the trees which were on the edge of a long narrow wood, National Trust land, but I had it surrounded by permission. Anyway just sat there when little fir cones thast these trees produce where falling around me. Squirels I thought. Pointed the .22 straight up as the trees were hanging out of the wood and got a pheasant in the sight 30 ft up. Dead vertical shot so took it through the neck. Bloody hell what a shock, this thing fell through the tree as I dived for cover. It landed like a bag of cement just about where I had been sat. 'Twas a guinea fowl, no idea where it came from, didn't even know they could fly, and haven't seen one since. BUT, a safe shot, and tasted good Quote Link to post
Sterry 0
How did you get a phesant confused with a guinea fowl. but granted they doo taste bloody good, we had 2 a goose this christmas much better than turkey and worked out cheaper even though we got both from a really good family butcher out of town a bit. i personally wouldnt point a rifle anywhere unless there is a back drop i.e a hill or shooting down,im not even to happy doing it with a air rifle (better safe than sorry) and squirels are much more fun with the .410. When looking vertical into a bright sky all I could see was the silluette of something with a little head and a big body. Knowing it wasn't billy bunter I thought it a fair shot??????????????
