Hi all

Looking for a bit of advice regarding the above gun. i have only ever really shot with rapids and used my mates logun solo and also had a play with another mates AA s400, problem is i sold my rapid as i started working in manchester and i just wasn't getting out with it enough, so i decided someone else should enjoy it and use it for what it was intended.

Anyway now i am back living in the sunny :o lake district (sarcasm included) and having seen an increase in dirty tree rats i have decided to get another PCP.

Having mainly had rapids this was my first thought and i have found a couple that fit the bill nicely, but part of me would like to try something new and having spoken to sean 3513 about it he feels that he would have a weirauch hw100 without hesitation. again i have found a couple that fit the bill.

I fully understand that this is pure personal preferance but what are peoples thoughts between the two.

To help it would be a .22 and used for all types of quarry.

Thanks and all advice is much appreciated.

Cheers

While the HW 100 is a great gun it will never top a Rapid mate and there's a few good deals second hand out there on my forum, just click on the link RAPID OWNERS in my signature, join up and have a look in the sales section ;)

Thanks

The rapid owners website is where i have found 2 rapids that i am intrested in and i kinda agree with you that the rapid is really the best huntingrifle, but i also think thtat it would be nice to have other experiances, having used my friends AA s400 i know its not the gun for me, dont get wrong nice gun and my friend loves it but for me its just not right.

Replaced my Rapid 17 with a Bar Custom HW100 in .177 and never looked back

Far Better and more consitant Rifle

At Lea Valley over the years - we have seen most rifles in use on the Ranges

Early Day's was Rapid's

Then Air Arms

Then Daystate

But the most prolific Air Gun on Lea Valley Ranges is Variants of the HW100's

Must be at least 50 on the Ranges most Weeks

Avarage around 70 - 100 Shooters on the Ranges most Saturday's ;) All Day Club

I take it you are talking about a Mark 1 Rapid 17??? If that's the case then I can agree with you but if you have a well regulated Mark 2 or an S-TYPE the the Weirauch although a fantastic rifle does not come close....

i'm on a rapid at mo..well happy with it as an rounder... but.. if it's itching your britch's go try a HW100 out, the cocking methods a nice bit of kit.. but try the thumb hole one.. it's ambi and awful user freindly.

last one i saw was using hobbies in .177 at a target shoot, only thing you could here at 12-14 yards away was the hobbies whistling..well nice i thought.

you can always get a rapid too..etc etc..

Yeah i have only ever had Mk1 Rapid 7's and don't get me wrong i have loved them shot with 3 different ones in total and never had anything bad to say about them, but having started reading around alot of people seem to have really taken to the HW100. you do hear alot of them on ranges though and to be honest apart from zeroing i wont be on a range much but mainly hunting in wooded area's, having never had a HW100 i don't wanna buy a gun that isn't best suited to what i am wanting to do with it.

GHillies you are right tho both would be a good option, now where is my credit card haha. I take your point tho there is nothing stopping me from trying the HW100 and swapping back to a rapid.

Thanks for the replies, i will have to have a think about it and then get sorted this weekend if possible.

I have a .177 HW100K - it's accurate, a bit heavy for carrying around for me but with a Safari Sling it's OK. The only thing against me using it for hunting is that I have it set up for target at a club, so by the time I've focussed and zeroed the sidewheel in on a bunny they have all gone for their tea!! To that end I am getting an FAC airgun of some sort ( I already have a .17HMR rimfire). My couple of years with the HW100K is that it's quiet (the full length version is even quieter), accurate, quick to charge and with the 14 shot mags has lots going for it. The "K" gets less shots than a full length version (around 50) but you're not going to shoot 70 bunnies in one go are you?

Hope this helps

I'm not a target shooting man myself, i use my gun in the field, and i can't fault the HW100, acurate, adjustable trigger, reliable, and bloody well built. (check out the blueing on it)

Of course one mans meat is......, and all that, but try one.

I use the thumb hole stock carbine, and it is an awsome weapon in the field.
