mad al 146
Any vehicle that is seen as "Road Legal" will have an annual MOT, Tax and Insurance, just like a car. If you consider the quad to be "Road Legal", you'll need all these and everything will have to be present and working, lights, indicators, horn, speedometer etc etc, it will also have to be fitted with road legal tyres. The exhaust on most quads do not meet the requirements for road use, so you'll need to check that out. In the case of farm quads, they are classed as an "agricultural vehicle" (i.e. tractor), do not require an MOT and although they have to display a tax disc, they are exempt (i.e. free), so they have a registration document and must have insurance and display a number plate. Ours are not fitted with speedometers, indicators or a horn and are fitted with off road tyres. As they are basically considered to be "tractors" by insurance companies they are not that expensive to insure. I'd say the other quads classed as "road Legal" will be more to insure. We also have a spare set of rims with road tyres that are fitted in the Summer to get to our other land which is about three miles away. To find the exact law, you need to check with the DVLA as I'm sure they'll put ya straight. To be honest farm quads fitted with off road tyres are not built for the road and you won't want to go far on one as they veer all over the road with these tyres fitted. claybusers al 9
if its classed as agri use and taxed as such then 3 miles from its location if you own it for what it cost it wont be much more to tax for everyday use
will.f11 24
don't know about distance but if its only insured for farm use be carefull what you carry, my mate got done because he was going fishing and that cant be classed as farming. same happened with my mate, bloody tight but i can see its not an agri use. Whenever I drive a quad on road not for farming, its ferreting. They cant do you for that as it is pest controlling.
