ianrob 2
Thanks Ellir, i also want to now how long it takes them to die in the snares and is it my suffocation or stress because I don't want them to suffer and would be happy to dispatch them by hand, so if anyone can tell me how long it takes then i will base how often i check the snares on that timeline. Thanks Hi mate. The snare is just meant to hold the rabbits 'till you come along to dispatch them. They are usually still alive unless they get tangled in something. Check at first light and again before dark. If snaring in the summer for pest control, then three times a day is needed. Quote Link to post

Thanks I don't know who you are. You have your info. It is your duty and indeed legal obligation to carry out any snaring or trapping in as humane a way as possible. As with all trapping and snaring, as you are not present at the moment of capture, it is possible for things to go wrong, as they do even in slaughter houses when there is total control. This is unavoidable. You should however do everything within your power to see that the animal captured suffers as little as possible. It should be dispatched humanely, and every effort must be made to avoid the capture of non target species. NB They are your snares, you are responsible for what they catch, no ifs and buts. Halfinch 51
You have done the right thing asking for advice, but by the sounds of it you are in a rush to go out and snare something. If you only want a few for the pot, what is the hurry? Take the advice you are being given, Buy Woodga's DVD. Get some GOOD QUALITY snares. Another thing, you seemed a bit worried about the rabbits screaming, are you sure you want to snare? What about if things went wrong because of lack of experience and you end up with a sweet little pussy cat in a snare? And at least have a very good idea of what you need to be doing BEFORE you go out and kill something. Quote Link to post

The rabbits will still be there when you have the right equipment, and hopefully a LOT more knowledge of what your doing. I don't know much about snareing, i ferret, but ALL hunting revolves around dispatching our quarry in the most humane way possible and that means you need to know how to make that happen. Not only could the animals suffer, but if you don't catch anything you could soon end up fed up with it, Now you can't gaurentee to catch at any time, but knowledge will give you a much greater chance. Take your time and learn, it will be much better in the long run. Quote Link to post
