Rainmaker 7
Nobody can say how this works, probably because it doesn't? Sulphur chemically has nothing to offer a dog, and isn't all that reactive or soluble in water to get inside the dog in the first place (unless you count the slight acidification of water after prolonged contact with sulphur?). Nothing against it as it doesn't seem to do any harm by any means, and it's cheap as chips. But I've never been able to find a single incidence of someone describing HOW it works, or why. The only references to it are from old alchemy or homeopathy texts. Not one to stay fixed in outlook or opinion, I'd be glad to see someone show some evidence as to its method and mode of action. Guest chilli
If its rubbish why do people use it ? a few lads have said about it so there must be something in it ? Quote Link to post
baz 463
how do you know if its cooling the dog down ...it cant tell you can it? Quote Link to post
Lennard 10
Speculating... dogs cool through skin, evaporation of tongue saliva, lungs or sweat of their feet I guess... So if it works, which I doubt...it should increase saliva production or dilate veins in the skin or something...? L Quote Link to post
socks 32,253
its all to do with the chemical riaction with the amino acids in the blood ... it is also very good for most skin dissorders such as excema ........ Quote Link to post
Guest Nightwalker
If its rubbish why do people use it ? a few lads have said about it so there must be something in it ? People use all sorts of things that dont work and manage to convince themselves otherwise, it's a mixture of old wives tales, wishful thinking and slick marketing. Just get out some basic physiology textbooks and do a bit of digging and you will see what I mean. Very little sulphur will be absorbed, any that is absorbed will not affect thermoregulation at all and if you manged to get a lot of sulphur into your dog all you will have done is to poison it. socks 32,253
because i am not a scientist i dont really want to try and speculate .... however what i do know is that since i have been using rock sulphur my dogs are far more comfortable in the hot weather .... Quote Link to post
