steven price 0
Hi guys, need your help. am brand new to firearm rated rifles, i come from a air rifle background, sub 12lb and have enjoyed it for many years. I joined a local gun club (Mayfair shooting centre) in sunderland on sat and shot my first ever firearm. don't ask me what make it was cos i have know idea just that it was a .22 rim fire. The problem is now am totally hooked, wish i had started years ago. now then when or if i get a licence what would be a good rifle to start with? Have been looking at the CZ 452. are these OK? and what kind of range am i looking at? with my air arms S400 air rifles i didn't really like to go over the 35Yard range for the rabbits. Any advice would be welcome. many thanks Steve. Quote Link to post
Fidgety 8
CZ 452 is a great gun, do a search and i dont think you will find a bad word said against it. Quote Link to post
oxo 459
Hello steve, i am a member at the Mayfair too. chances are the club gun you shot was either a cz or a Brno. Next time you will use a semi auto .22 (either a 10/22 or a 597) and on the last safety lesson you will be using a Marlin 38/357. I have a CZ 452 American and they are great guns. Range wise yards or so for a .22 imo. regards Quote Link to post
steven price 0
thanks for the advice fidgety, have had a look around and they do seem to be a good rifle, so what kind of safe range can i expect? Edited January 18, 2009 by steven price Quote Link to post
Fidgety 8
As Oxo says, 80yrds is good for rabbit. >22 is a slow and heavy round, so it will drop off fairly quickly. It will also ricochet in a very scary manner too. Plenty of time trying it on the range at different distances will help a whole heap in learning what it can do. Quote Link to post

cyclonebri1 8
Very, very underestimated round, was the weapon of choice for mafia assasins due to low noise and carry over. ie, can shoot someone at point blank in a cafe without ruining the wallpaper or waking the staff Quote Link to post
