Well the easisist way to ensure you get your hob or any other ferret back after each trip out is a locator

why dont you just acquire the use f a hoblet as you need him

theres a pinned thread where people advertise hobs for use

 

some of the animal charities will give you a voucher for the snip to be

done free of charge,

dont know who, could find out tho

I would go for the two hobs option, if you get two kitt brothers, by the time they come into season, having lived together for best part of a year, there should be no fighting, ok they may become bum bandits for a month or two, but no expensive vet bills to start, if then in the future your mum falls in love with these giant teddy bears and allows you more space for hutches/court, you can get some jills, then look at getting one hob snipped and one castrated or left intact.

Would that not be a bit of a gamble? They might not fight so they might not injure themselves. I agree with the hob and jill scenario and as Kay said if you get them as kits this year then you will have time to get the hob snipped by next year.

And as they usually have more hob than jill kitts and you cant get rid of them most of the time what do you plan to do with these cull them when there born .

if you want a starting point & have never kept ferrets before i will advise you to get 2 neutered ferrets from a rescue , then you have nothing to worry about them having babys & if you get on ok with them you can always add more maybe next year,

 

I know origonally i said a hob & jill if you were getting kits this year but if your having to rely on your parents footing any bills then get 2 neutered ones that way it gives you time to get ferreting stuff & save for a locator

I would say the same as Kay. Iv got six Jills and a vasectomised hob it works for me . It cost me £35 to get the hob done .

 

well that sounds like the best option, will he be able to stay in all year if hes done? i will ring my vet for a quote

Pump in ferret rescues and start phoning round most will have a few left from last year so you will probably get what you want .Cost a bob or two to get your ferret's neutered though

which ever way you do it its going to cost you a tidy penny , if your looking for a cheap way there isnt one , expect at least 40 to 60 quid for 2 ferrets from a rescue but they will already be neutered .

 

if you get kits this year & then get a hob vasectomised late on this year the price will vary from vet to vet & that will probably cost up to about 50 quid , if you allow the ferrets to breed you have no experience & then have the huge task of providing enough food which if you dont have a freezer full of rabbit will be costly .

 

I really think you need to get the all clear from your parents as to the costing of all this, its not cheap which ever way you do it
