ellir0305 9
If you get kits born this year you wont need it jabbing, and if you get the hob done at the end of this year it wont need jabbing next year either as the hob will be able to go in with her what is the risk of losing my snipped hob though? is it worth getting another working jill so i dont have to take him out? and what is a reasonable price for having a hob snipped? thank you for your patience i want to be sure as the lat gthing i want is to harm a ferret Quote Link to post

ellir0305 9
i agree wae kay she always makes sense tho if space is a problem when seperating hob fae jills why dont you just acquire the use f a hoblet as you need him theres a pinned thread where people advertise hobs for use some of the animal charities will give you a voucher for the snip to be done free of charge, dont know who, could find out tho as a mate got it i will have a look but could you ask your mate please Quote Link to post

stubby 175
I would go for the two hobs option, if you get two kitt brothers, by the time they come into season, having lived together for best part of a year, there should be no fighting, ok they may become bum bandits for a month or two, but no expensive vet bills to start, if then in the future your mum falls in love with these giant teddy bears and allows you more space for hutches/court, you can get some jills, then look at getting one hob snipped and one castrated or left intact. at present I have one castrated two snipped four intact all living in the court, jills not in season yet (theres 5 jills with them) so they are going up the muddy path, BUT NO FIGHTING Quote Link to post

They might not fight so they might not injure themselves. I agree with the hob and jill scenario and as Kay said if you get them as kits this year then you will have time to get the hob snipped by next year. Quote Link to post
The one 8,487
Firstly i think your hutch is too small for two ferrets it should be a minimum of 6x2x2 ,bigger if you plan to add more . If you get two hobs and they start fighting you will need to split them do you have the room and another hutch?. If you settle for a snipped hob and Jill ,with just the one Jill he might mark her up and hurt her so they need splitting again. Complete hob and Jill same again and when she has her kitts your going to need to feed the for 7/8 weeks they will eat as much as a small african nation And as they usually have more hob than jill kitts and you cant get rid of them most of the time what do you plan to do with these cull them when there born . You need to carefully think and answer all these questions before you get your first ferret Quote Link to post

deeley24 72
I would say the same as Kay. Iv got six Jills and a vasectomised hob it works for me . The one 8,487
Pump in ferret rescues and start phoning round most will have a few left from last year so you will probably get what you want .Cost a bob or two to get your ferret's neutered though Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
which ever way you do it its going to cost you a tidy penny , if your looking for a cheap way there isnt one , expect at least 40 to 60 quid for 2 ferrets from a rescue but they will already be neutered . if you get kits this year & then get a hob vasectomised late on this year the price will vary from vet to vet & that will probably cost up to about 50 quid , if you allow the ferrets to breed you have no experience & then have the huge task of providing enough food which if you dont have a freezer full of rabbit will be costly . I really think you need to get the all clear from your parents as to the costing of all this, its not cheap which ever way you do it Quote Link to post
