stubby 175
a lot of pest control firms will take you on without the bpca certs, specially if your coming from the building trade and have a full driving license, and it turn, they will pay for your training, I joined my firm with no pest control quailifications, but 20yrs plus in construction, as they wanted someone, not scared of heights, and used to cherry pickers (MWEPS) and scaffolding etc, within 6 months they had sent me for the BPCA where abouts are you located, let me know, coz our firm may be looking for someone, south of the river Quote Link to post

mole trapper 1,693
Just a word of advice, i get a couple of calls a week from people seeing my ad in the yellow pages etc, they always bang on about i like shooting/ dogging/ferreting etc, i dont have a car licence and my missus likes me to be home to pick the kids up at 3.30 If you truly want to have a go at pesting and you are going down the cold calling route, really think about what you have to offer, not what you would like. The alternative is to be told to feck off and stay on the rock n roll because you havent got the right attitude. Quote Link to post

stubby 175
one main thing to remember, is pest control is more a way of life than a job, what I mean there, is you have got to want to do stuff that might not be pleasant, rather than good stuff like bunnies and moles, when I was in the building game, I was earning a min of 30k a year, I took the job in pest control, using my construction skills to get my foot in the door, with a starting salary of 15k, big difference, but I gave myself a year to see how it went, in that year my firm put me in for more certification than you could shake a stick at, we do lots of work for the underground, and I have nearly every ticket that you would need to work any job there, my first year I was clearing house's where dead bodies had been found, picking up needles etc, cleaning subways and a little pest control, but I stuck at it, within 18 months I'd recieved pay rises to 26k I now do pest control and bird work, all for london underground, rabbits and rats are more my weekends off, although I did have a few weeks on a rabbit contract I could easily leave, with my certification, and get a different job within the underground, working less hours for more money, but I dont, as Im a pestie for life (fingers crossed) Quote Link to post
