Whatever is happening with Greyhound Racing, we Lurcher guys had better hope it keeps going !! Now that coursing is banned, there is only the racers who are keeping the greyhound breed going !! God forbid we eventualy have to go to show Greyhounds for our lines !!

Cheers.

hi all just wondering does anyone else think greyhound racings on its way out ? the tracks bye me are closing anyone else ?

The game has been on its arse for years. You only have to look at the number of track closures, NGRC have almost halved in the past twenty years & the number of flapping tracks must of reduced by about 80%

What direction it will take in years to come i don't know but i can't see it ever disappearing what with the Bookmaker owned tracks & those that survive with the help of a BAGS contract.

well dont see the difference between a track grey and a show grey to be honest...its not like these greys chase live quarry do they?

think if our coursing greys were banned then we would be in a bit of trouble as surley these are the types that we should be breeding to our lurchers?

as in now even though there are muzzled are chasing live quarry but most important there lines have been bred this way and iv seen plenty of track and coursing greys with the coursing grey being shorter but broader on than back with stronger musclear features especially on the hind legs with also a broader chest....surely these type of greys are better suited to be crossed with our lurcher?

I disagree most irish coursing dogs are bred for park coursing, a sprint up a field in a strait line of maybe 300m they are to big ie 90-100 pounds in weight to use for lurcher breeding, imo a 72-76 pound stayer or marathon dog-bitch greyhound would be better utalised in lurcher breeding , yes better still if the said dog or bitch was tested on live quarry in the field, befor the ban open coursing dogs were a better propesition ie much smaller and agile where points were gave for the course ie agility , turning ect. Nowdays park coursing is only about pace nothing else . Years ago your coursing dogs ie Fullerton, Master Magrath, Green tic, ect would have only weight around the 50-54 lb mark much better COURSING prospects imo.

Spot on , Agilty is name of the game, and you dont get it from big Dogs , for lurcher work

you need speed, but without Agilty you wont catch feck all :wallbash:
