We still use the mk1's, have quite a few collars, and boxes, (on our last working box though).

Never used the mk 3 or seen it used, they seem to be a decent bit of kit, but a bit of a sting. If Deben had made them so the old collar's worked with the new box, it would have been less of a sting for the changover, it makes you reluctant to buy them to be honest.

I'm sure an electronics whizz could run up some new internal boards to fit straight in the old boxes.

Even my old feller can use the mk1, allthough trying to locate a ferret a foot down he'll still have the dial switched up to 8ft! :D

Think the mk3 might confuse him a bit by the looks of things!

hi brimmer the old mk1 collars work with the mk3 but the knoking is a bit slower

Are they just as accurate?

cant remember it was last year [bANNED TEXT] i was out with me mate with his am getting a mk 3m tomorrow or mondy will let you know :whistling::victory:

Cheers for that salmon, if you can get an accurate fix at all, i'd be willing to shell out for a mk3 set, and take it from there!

Got the mk 1 when they first appeared, over the years I've never had one let me down but somehow I have now got 4 boxes. My mate got a mk 3 a few years back and now uses the mk1 8ft box with the mk3 colors and doubles up on the reading very accurate. You can't use the mk3 box with mk1 colors or the mk1 box with mk 3 colors. The mk 1s I have will certainly be going strong long after I am not.Which is good because I don't like the mk 3. :victory:

hiya folks, new this year to ferreting, never used a mk1,but the lads i go with been doing it for 20 odd years, and all swear by the mk 1,i got a new mk3m,with the smaller collars, works ok,takes some getting used to though, but it only lasted 1 and a 1/2 trips, then broke,so off to deben for there opinon, hope they are as quick with there warranty repairs as there price increases, robbing b******s,the mk3m collars work with the mk1 boxs ok,good job, when your ferts 6 foot down and your box goes off,on a 20 holer, but the lads who persevere with the mk3 eventually find them ok,just a lot more messing about than with a mk1,and collars £50 each,if some one brought a finder and collar set up as good as the deben out,i for one would never buy another deben product, unless absalutally desperate, robbing b*****S,well thats my 2 penneth worth, atb, ian
