which ones do you prefer and why? what are the advantages and disadvantages of say the mk1 and the mk3? I've only ever used the mk1 and now i'm back into ferreting again the mk3 is out (can't believe when i sold up the last time i sold my 3 collars and 2 boxes for 65 quid) If only i knew they would go up in value, Why are the used mk1's going for almost as much money and a new mk3? I wish some other companies would start making thse devices as there isn't much too them therefore Deben can charge what they want for them...

We still use the mk1's, have quite a few collars, and boxes, (on our last working box though).

Never used the mk 3 or seen it used, they seem to be a decent bit of kit, but a bit of a sting. If Deben had made them so the old collar's worked with the new box, it would have been less of a sting for the changover, it makes you reluctant to buy them to be honest.

I'm sure an electronics whizz could run up some new internal boards to fit straight in the old boxes.

Even my old feller can use the mk1, allthough trying to locate a ferret a foot down he'll still have the dial switched up to 8ft! :D

Think the mk3 might confuse him a bit by the looks of things!

Im still on the mk1 because ive a few boxes and a dozen collars i dont get a lot of iterferance where i work so im quite happy with them .Ive often thought about swapping over but to get the same as what ive already got would cost far to much, and the feedback on the mk3's doesn't impress me so i keep saying i will wait a bit

I used to have a mk1 but i decided to bite the bullet and trade it in for a mk3 and to be perfectly honest I'm glad i did, but that wasn't my thought to start with. I found that the mk3 was a bit confusing and awkward to use in the way that you have 2 settings to find the ferret and then you have to pinpoint where the ferret is. The literature that deben put in with the locator looks simple enough but when put into practice becomes a little confusing. But with perseverance i figured it out and now i rate it higher than the mk1, the reasons being 1. You dont have to walk all over a bury trying to find your ferret(s) 2. Extremely acccurate 3. No interference from wire fences etc 4. Easy to get spares and repairs.

Owned the MK1 & it did the job for me.Got the MK3 in '07 & after a bit of playing around with it,finally sussed it out & i think it's a good bit of kit  Ok the noise it makes is annoying & putting the batteries in can be fiddly at times but it's like everything else technology moves on & eventually you have to move with it.....

Had no choice, my MK2 packed up, had to buy MK3, mate uses a MK1 when we are out, the MK1 was better than the MK2 by miles, but it lags behind the MK3, like every one who owns an MK3 says, once you get used to them they are the dogs knackers, my MK3 pinpoints down to six inches, so I asume that they all do.

the mark three takes a bit of getting used to, the mark one was a bit less complicated and is a great tool, but mk3 is the way forward :big_boss:

I have a MK111 and have to say it it pretty accurate. I love it, The sensitivity control works brilliantly. The only downside is the colloars being a bit fidly, but you get used to it.

I would say that on a 6 ft indication, it is actually about 4-5 ft deep. Which is acceptable, because you allways remeasure during a dig.

Big thumbs up from me

Slightly different question as a new ferreter should i go for a mk1 or just go strait for the mk3?

I would suggest MK111, most people buy MK1's for compatibility with exisiting kit. If you have the cash spare for a MK111, there is no reason not to get one.. However, if you are buying second hand, and a MK1 comes up cheap, and it has a known history, it is still a good bit of kit.
