wife 1 Posted April 24, 2006 Report Share Posted April 24, 2006 WHAT DO OTHERS ON HERE FIND BEST FOR CATCHING SQUIRRELS BAITWISE AND ALSO DOES ANYONE ON HERE SET THERE TRAPS OFF GROUND LEVEL AND HAVE ANY LUCK,I HAVE ALOT OF LUCK GROUND LEVEL BUT ON A NEW FARM I HAVE THERE IS A PUBLIC FOOTPATH RUNNNG THROUGH IT AND ANY TRAPS THAT WOULD BE SET ON THE GROUND WOULD BE SEEN OR FOUND BY PEOPLE WALKING THERE DOGS,I WAS THINKING ONLY OPTION TO SET THEM SO FAR UP IN A TREE USING A BUNGEE LIKE THE ONES YOU USE TO FASTEN SOMETHING TO YOUR ROOF RACK ,ANY ONE SET TRAPS UP IN TREES AND FOUND ANY DIFFERENCE IN CATCH RESULTS TO SETTING THEM FLOOR LEVEL,KEEP HUNTING Quote Link to post
TOMO 26,621 Posted April 24, 2006 Report Share Posted April 24, 2006 yes tree sets for trapping squirrels are very good, just make sure its a tree they are using, also on fence's you cantrap them here as well. here are some pics. i personaly dont use live traps for squirrels , but the same principles aply. the traps in the pics are fenn mk 6 set in a wire mesh tunnel and a kania trapp but you could also use a bodygripp trapp. good luck TOMO Quote Link to post
wife 1 Posted April 24, 2006 Author Report Share Posted April 24, 2006 yes tree sets for trapping squirrels are very good, just make sure its a tree they are using, also on fence's you cantrap them here as well. here are some pics. i personaly dont use live traps for squirrels , but the same principles aply. the traps in the pics are fenn mk 6 set in a wire mesh tunnel and a kania trapp but you could also use a bodygripp trapp. good luck TOMO cheers mate,some cracking pics mate,i do a fair bit of squirrels through the winter and also through the summer,through the winter we use dogs and ferrets and drey poking poles ,we do good bags had 2 lots of 10s and quite often do 5s and 6s in 1 day,in the summer i use live catch traps but i am faced with the problem this year on a new farm which i pointed out earlier on,i was looking at your pics earlier on this morning of the trap on the fence,this year i have put up a few nest boxes for them which i have designed and when i climb the tree with the nest boxes in i have made them so i can put a pursenet for squirrels over the front,not sure if you go to the trouble of climbing trees but we quite often have to climb a few to pull the nests down and they quite often do not leave the nest until you are right next to it poking it with a small stick,only the other day we had 5 move out of a nest that i poked when i was up the tree, we only managed to get three of them and lost the other 2 in a hole that we could not reach,not quite sure how to put pics up on here yet but if you have a look at the thread chasing squirrels on hardcore hunting there is a few pics i put up a few ,weeks back,i make all my own live catch traps as i work in the steel industry and i prefer to use live catch traps as i always have dogs to bring along and they can humanely kill a squirrel in a blink of a eye,i do have a few fenns which i use for rats in akward places where there is no room to place a live catch trap,thanks for the reply,speak soon ,keep hunting Quote Link to post
