1st crosses - what would your choice be?

i have allways fancyed a german shepard x all these good things that get writen in the contryman bullshits about them allway made me whant to put one to the test. so if i was breeding just for myself then it whould have to be a shepardx just to satisfy my qriosity about this breed. plus if i was breeding a first cross collie or bull ect i whould rather use a gryhound dog to breed not a bitch unless i was crossing a lurcher.

 

 

I think it would have to be the bedlington or collie for me,they would suite me better for my kind of hunting

 

just out of curiosity brock1 why would you use a greyhound dog instead of a greyhound bitch for a first cross

So if it was one dog and must be a first cross....

 

I've always loved my first cross Bulls but I know their limitations (although they are few!) especially in todays climate!

 

If it was to be all sighthound, though I much admire those match dogs, i'm not too struck on a first cross.

I do like The sound of Dox's Deerhound/Whippet though.

 

Then if it was to be Pastoral, i'd give the usual Collie types a miss, not that there ain't good 'uns, there are, i've owned one and seen enough! Just that the search for 'my' type of dog would be too difficult. Think i'd look to a Malinois or a ACD to find my type there.

 

So, out of all the above I'd try the Malinois

a lot of choices mate and some good ones to,but how i would choose a stud dog is by the land an the quarry you ar gona run him or her on,no point in feeding monster if rabbit is on the menu, or a small slow dog in big open country.stick with the first x for that hybrid viguor"if u want a fast one choose a pup with a narrow head if you want a strong one a pup with a wide head. For me mooching with a good collie greyhound, or a good wheaton greyhound can do you well anywhere and on most quarry. Choose well mate, all the best.

well said mate that should always be the first thing thought of when choosing a lurcher or wanting a stud is to think wat quarry and land you have to run on

id go for a beddie even if you dont want a fox dog youve got 1 got mooching dogs and they have a nose like a spaniel

i have a saluki greyhound and his nose is as good if not better than any dog i know hes an excellent moocher so ill say again BOLLOCKS

Everyone can have an opinion everybody has diffrent opinion and thats good, rather have a moucher what will retreive, not all sighthounds retrieve live to hand.
