Water

Quick one for you...

How much water would you expect a dry fed jill to be drinking?

I've got a 600ml bottle in the hutch and the level hardly seems to be going down...

I'm monitoring her health and she doesn't seem to be dehydrating; scruff falls back to position rapidly once pinch released. I keep offering a bowl of water and puddle in the bottom of the sink/bath as an alternative, which she doesn't seem to be too interested in either.

What sort of height do you set the spout of the bottle? I'm wondering if mine's set too low for her to get under and drink from...

Only had her 3 days now and already becoming quite attached, such a character!

If your feeding meat she wont drink a lot ,but if your feeding dry she willshould be drinking a fair bit

Exactly what i'd have thought... how much is a fair bit though?

Is the water actually coming out of the bottle, give it a squeeze to make sure, i set mine about 6 inches from the bottom of the run & they drink from it ok

yeah water is available, wiggle the valve and get a wet finger. Mine's set about 5" from bottom so shouldn't be too bad, but I'll raise the bottle another inch just to be sure.

If your feeding meat and its only the one jill you have she may be getting all she required out the meat

I think youv'e done the right thing trying differnt containers to see if she's no used to drinking from a bottle

Stand by for some flak

Try a couple of teaspoons of milk to see if the ferret wants a drink as ive said before she may be getting all she's needing but if she downs the milk like she's thirsty then you have to look at other alternatives .

Hi mate,

my two 7month old jills share a bottle 600ml. If I fill monday morning, wednesday eve I will have about 1" left in the bottom ish. Depends how warm its been.

It is about 2" off the deck.

They are fed J Wellbeloved only with occasional cat meat. Their coats are lovely and nice white nashers. Very healthy on it

Hope this answers your questions,,,,,,,, FF

Thats quite reassuring, your figures work out to a guestimate of 80ml per ferret per day - which is about what mines been going down. For some reason i expected her to drink more!?!

Many thanks for everyones help, i will continue to monitor her condition but your comments have helped put my mind at rest.
