ratmogit 16
would like to see this cross. nothing wrong with a bit of fire in the mix. they should make good allrounders Quote Link to post
Guest Countryboyo
The kerry blues are very similar to the Irish terrier but there are a lot more irishterrier lurchers for some reason. The kerry is thicker set alright but the dogs temperments are similar. Both are very plucky breeds and will back down from nothing. Quote Link to post
DIGZY 4
read about this cross in (the complete lurcher) old version . its ment to be a REALLY game cross but i have never seen one working. Quote Link to post

bullyson 2,023
having lived in ireland for 13 years seen a few kerry blues most were showy type but seen 3 or 4 that worked, game little dogs but one of them was real bad with kids more than likely not the breed just brought up by a nob but i reckon it would be decent x if the right stuf was found which im sure would be hard. seen a few irish terrier x greyhounds first and second crosses and were very good dogs. keeps us updated on your breeding program mate and see if you can get some pics of them k blues. all the best, cheers keith Quote Link to post
earth&hounds 94
more fire that a wheaton or a bull x then as for nasty with other dogs think thats down to mixing them well with others bull xs can be like that even collie x can be nasty with other dogs Quote Link to post
Guest Countryboyo
why use a breed that is rarely worked when there are several breeds of terrier that are from working lines and could be used. seen a few of this cross and heard thay were nothing special. Unfortunately the Kerry Blue terrier has been changed too much by the show fraternity now and again an odd one may pop up with working instincts of its ancestors but when you go to the next generation it may not. Better to use a terrier from working lines for long term sucess. Thats what I think anyway You tyrone boys could at least let us kerry lads be proud of our native dog after you stole our pride when you took the sam mcguire off us..... Why is the Irish terrier lurcher more common than the kerry? Do people work full Irish terriers in the field? Quote Link to post
furdy 0
How much of a coincedence that I was discussing this very subject tonight with littlelurcher......She owns a 1/4 kerry 3/4 grey.....stands 27, good temperament, consistant, has a long stride, a bit of a gait rather than out and out speed.......She'll talk to you about him... I was discussing the merits of the irish terrier crosses, I rate them above anything else. They were the most popular terrier cross in the 40's and 50's and I've owned and worked them...... They are fantastic game and hardy dogs. less prone to heireditary disease than beddy's. Reasonable nose but not as good as beddy but courageous to a fault. The dogs can be aggresive toward other dogs though, even with good socialising, I dont know why but they are always ready to react and get in a punch up.. The 3/4 crosses made great day time hare dogs and would readily take deer. Oddly they dont seem to be so keen to enter to fox as the beddy does, they will go but always seem to be less than entusiastic. pure irish terriers show longer backs and racy lines compared to most other terriers..... I want a first cross for my own use......for work, not interested in fox. I want a good strong dog pup that I will put across a grey if he proves his worth. Again, 2nd generation for my own use. I was discussing with little lurcher about breeding my own cause I cant find one and I really dont want anything else......I know you dont want to sell any...???? but I would be intereted without a doubt.... Good luck anyway... Quote Link to post
Guest little lurcher
thanks furdy!!! yes i have a 1/4 kerry blue 3/4 grey , saw the dog work and had him and his owner stay here for a long time before i took him on , the dog is a star!!! perfect temperment , game , brilliant with even the smallest of dogs , wasnt cat safe but now is , in fact during the call with furdy last night i had to rescue him from the bitch not allowing him in the bedding!! but out working the dog is a sight to be seen , sound solid extremely rare for him to ever miss anything he is a credit to the breeder and the lad who had him before me my 4yr old son walks him he is that good , he stands 27 tts no one has enough money to ever replace a dog with as much to him as he has Quote Link to post
fielder 18
Do you have any photos of the dog? Quote Link to post
Guest Countryboyo
Do you have any photos of the dog? I second that, Love to see photos of him. Im very surprised the Irish terrier cross can be slow to enter charlie, They always seem very plucky to me but id spose its different with how they are to other dogs to how they are to reds.
