mattydski 560
When I first moved to scotland, I tried to carry on carp fishing. But with the record at just (then anyway) 29lb ish..., I though it was going ot be a difficult fishing season. So, i joined a season ticket water in the area, (the only one which has night fishing) and went to the water for alook round. It was not fished for in the manner I was used to fishing to be honest, having spent 15 years fishing hard carp waters in Englandshire, I was used to the wary carp. I joined in the morning, went and got my binoculars, catapult and a tin of hemp. Found a coule of likely swims I thought would produce, and put half a tin of hemp in each swim. I saw some bubbles and the odd tail hit the surface, so I knew they were on the bait. I borrowed a small float rod off one of the regular guys (nice chap) made a depth guage and marked out the swim. There was a channel showing near the area I had baited, probably caused by the dragline bucket. Undetered, I went to get the night fishing gear from the house. Never before in scotland had anyone seen the magnitude of a session anglers equipment . They thought I was there for the week...which I had considered TBH... It was october, and nearly dark, so I concentrated on the house keeping first, bivvy, bedchair, sleeping bag etc, etc, got the kettle on and made a bacon sarnie. The plan then was to cast out over a bed of maggots, hemp and broken boilies, a singlr popup hook bait, on a hair rig. (Semi fixed rig.) So the trap was set, buzzers tested, whisky poured, and sarnie eaten. Just lit my first fag of the evening (Still smoked then) probably about 10.00 at night and I had the most all mighty run ever experienced in my life. It neerly pulled the rod off the buzzer, the indicator smaked in to the rod. I struck in to what fealt like a steam train, setting out for the horizon. A long fight ensued, this carp was not for the bank, probably 15-20 mins saw the carp near to the bank and ready for the net. I am used to fishing on my own, so there was no hassle to slip the net under cyprio. I had neglected to put my head light on, so it came as quite a surprise when I could barely lift the net out of the water. I dropped the net on the bank mat, and put the light on. It looked a reasonable size. so wet the weigh sling and was surprised that even taking the sling in to consideration that it weighed over 28lbs. Not my biggest carp...but at just under the scottish record, one i will remember for ever..In fact i was chuffed to find the pictures on my old pc. I didn't share the catch with anyone. This is the first time I have posted its catch anywhere. I don even know what the record is now and it was the last itme I carp fished in Scotland..it's just too easy. Quote Link to post
