MIXERS NEED BETTER DIGGERS

Recommended Posts

ive been interested in terriers for a few years now , after getting invited to go out and dig out a mates dog , he owned a lot of dogs both terriers and lurchers but never seemed to have a days graft in him , over a couple of seasons i dug out several differant dogs and the lad who,s dogs they were was fetching good money for the pups , eventually we parted ways and i got invited to go out with other lads to dig there dogs, one of the lads had a dog given him by someone and within a year it was working well, he offered me a pup and i excepted wich turned out to be a cracker , in time i started hearing stories of the other chap i used to go digging with , that his dogs were coming off , [jacking in ] wich i found hard to believe , as his dogs were some of the gamest dogs ive seen at the time , which brings me to my point , i think that hard dogs need to be dug to quicker especially when there young , i dont think that the dogs were to blame , after all they were battling there hearts out , i think it was the idle terrier man with all knoledge and no interest in what working terriers is all about . MIXERS NEED BETTER DIGGERS :clapper:

its one thing having a hard dog but if he is not game, then hes useless, hard dogs that go in and slap into the stuff and hold on untill they are sick of the pain are just plain crap, simple as that, its not the diggers fault that he didnt get to him in time . dogs that work like that are not game. if you always need to take them to shallow earths to dig them quickly because your afraid they are going to walk off then its time to look for different blood. lots of people dont like hard dogs but hard ones that have impressed me are the ones that do the job, stick the pain and stay untill the jobs done.

I agree with that, but I also think that a decent dog deserves an owner that is going to work hard to dig to the dog.

correct schooling entering and breeding....followed by the aftercare all dogs need too many people take out dogs already sore etc let dogs heal correctly before taking them out again...im not talking the odd pepper etc but cuts an rips do this right at theright age and it wont matter what a do/bitch does its been entered right so shouldnt let you down....

its amazing how many jackers could go right if given time and the right hands to bring em on...dont get me wrong there will always be wastage but alot cpuld go on if schooled in the right hands or put into em later....alot of jackers are just worn out or hurting...the right rest is all needed in some cases

either they stay or dont. once they are entered right. just cos dogs your mate bred walked doesnt mean anything. they couldve been spoiled by wxnkers entering them too young, giving them too much. terriers arent robots. but as far as how quick they dig??? i have a rule. get your dog dug as quick as possible because the next dig might be a nightmare. every terrier wether hard or not should be opened uo to asap. least you can do for your workers.

once your dog is on mate, how long do you give them to settle.everybody has a different answer.some dig straight away some give them 30/40 minutes to work there quarry..depends on your dog i suppose and the way it works.cheers mouse. ;)

when a dog first starts its working life they sometimes have a few hiccups along the way but if these continue to happen ie coming away from the chosen quarry then im afraid the dog has to go one way or another imo i currantly have a russell bitch which is just starting i have had this dog since it was 6 weeks old but if it doesnt make the grade it will go im afraid :o

and as for digging fast depending on the quarry you sometimes cant start digging straight away

sorry lads , been out lamping [ didnt catch owt ] not starting an argument , just saying , . . . the lad that bred my dog has fu**ed up the two pups he kept back ,and mine is working fine , i couldnt ask any of him asomeone has asked me to put him over there bitch allready , but im gonna wait and see what what the following season brings , if he is still alive . he's a little mixer and works more for himself than me , allways wants the fight, the breeder kept 2 back and there coming off allready , and so [ i hear ] is the dam , since i stopped digging too her , this may be coincidence but i doubt it , and i think this goes too prove that youve got to get to em as quick as you can, " KEEP DIGGING EM AND KEEP BREAKING THROUGH " :hmm:
