out tomorrow on new permission

Recommended Posts

out tomorrow with john-B on the new permission and cant wait.ive been looking forward to this since last week now its finally here.all the gear is packed and im ready for the off.theres only one small problem.....shall i take the dog.ive ok'd it with the farmer but im unsure.the dog has only encountered sheep once before so im not sure which way she is going to react.i dont think she will worry them but i dont want to take the chance.....i dont want to lose the permission or have the thought of sheep aborting their young just for the sake of a dog.any advice.....by the way the dog is twelve so not the youngest but still likes to do her bit .ive told the farmer that if the dog so much as looks at his sheep the wrong way she will be leadered up and straight back in the van

i have mate.i got her when she was about eight weeks old.she has only ever seen sheep once and never really bothered .i honestly dont think she would bother them as she is more occupied with her hunting than whats going on around her, which is more than i can say for one of my other dogs.she was about four or five when she had contact with them and that was through a fence.i know the dog like the back of my hand to be honest ,she is also trained to the whistle and is excellent on recall.i am probablys stressing over nothing,as i said .i know the dog inside out and she hasnt got a nasty bone in her body.its just im unsure on how she will react when she does finally come into proper contact with a sheep.i might just take her and keep her on her lead just to see how she reacts,if she is ok i can let her off,if not she gets put back in the van,but there is a nation of rabbits on this land to keep her busy so i sont think she will bother the sheep anyway :D

Just keep her close to start with until the sheep move away, the rabbits will occupy her, and at 12 yrs old I cannot see her worrying them. You'll know your dog better than anyone.

By the way, have a good un!
