In the middle of all the PC junk I'm sorting I found this pic. This is my old "Ex Works" Mk1 Ford Escort in action at Talbenny airfield, many moons ago. It started life as a Mexico and was loaned to a team who track raced it. I bought it as a rolling shell and we turned it into a tarmac rally car with an ex factory 2.0L Pinto engine, Quaiffe box and Atlas LSD axle and Bilstein suspension, a very quick competitive car in it's day.

sorry about the pic quality, it's a pic of an old pic

Nice one Al :notworthy:. I loved the old Escorts! my first car was a MK1 1300GL and I worshiped it, I don't think I have ever cleaned a car so much since , The Mexico's were the Dogs dangley's in my eyes though mate....

There was a lad not far from me back then who had a lovely black MK1 RS2000, he popped the bonnet up to show me a lovely set of twin 40's and a 4 branch in a peco and boy did it sound nice, I reckon these care would give some decent one's now a good run for their money....

This was my baby a few years later! I stuck a piper highlift cam on top of the 2.0 litre pinto and 4 branch and all the other bits and bobs, I loved it as it gave it a lumpy tick over which sounded good at the traffic light ...

It was a real fanny magnet back then ...

cheers

That brigs back memories as I had one of them in 1979 . I changed it for a Alfa Romeo junior and we put the V6 in it. You just gave my a push down memory lane.

Thanks

Michael

A mate of mine used to race a fibre glass mid Alfa engined kit car Michael

Never had the privilege of doing the lakes, I did the Cork 20 when it had International status, my claim to fame  . As for Killarney, I've brilliant memories of the place involving sex, alcohol, The Circuit Of Ireland and the ever brilliant Wolfetones :drink:

I had a two tone silver & red 2.0s when I was about 19. I think I only paid about £70 for it off a mate as a quick sale. That thing was tail happy, those 3.0 litres must have been a nightmare!

I used to love the sound of those old V6 Essex engines.

Mal it gets worse, we're all owning up to owning one of them. The V6's were shall we say "twitchy"

Oh mate now you're talking :notworthy:. I would have loved one but by all accounts they passed everything except a petrol station ...

I loved the the MK3 2.0S, I remember being a total jerk when I picked it up and buying it without checking it over but it looked good so I wanted it, them checked seats and tennis racket head rests and all the dials on the dash had me drooling .

I remember knocking the first engine out after fitting the High Lift Cam racing a MK1 XR2 down to a old Jazz/Funk place back then called the Jennings Arms, anyone in Norfolk must remember that one? it was always a race there with the petrol heads to find the best parking place under the front lights for a pose :icon_redface:, silly now I know but when we was 18 - 19 cars was everything...

The XR2 tried hard to get past me but couldn't manage it! when the second choke kicked in on the twin choke webbers the lad was Toast ;) I had 4 people in it and got about a mile away from the place and Bang!!! one blown engine.....

Here's my old 2.0 litre Cortina with all the silly stuff on it before the Capri
