decoying feral pigeons

hi all,

whats the best way of decoying scems (feral pigeons )

watching these feed they seem to stay in a group, landing outside then joining the group any one got any experience of these ? thanks.

They are absolute suckers for a pigeon magnet, and decoys. We used to get excellent results once the birds had been seen feeding in the same place for a few days. Plus you dont need to be anywhere near as careful or hidden as when decoying woodies.

ferals dont seem to have any manners compared to wood pigeons normal patterns dont seem to matter just put the decoys in a bunch but be very careful what you shoot as far as i know the birds should be on the ground feeding before they can be classed as feral i have had some heated discusions in the past with racing pigeon men

Where I live there are lots of feral birds. In fact the land owner mentioned them particularly as they "go " in the cattle fed around the farm buildings. I have found that the feral bird comes real easy to the decoy pattern. I usually mix pigeon and crow decs and the feral birds come to any mix of these. They are as fast as woodies and will jink away also but generally they will come in easy. Last year I left the hide to clean up the pattern of dead birds and in came 4 birds. I just hunkered down with the decs and in they came. I was able to shoot 2 and could not believe they did not see me. Some one told me that they taste just the same as woodies but I have not tried eating them.

thanks for the replies , i wouldn't fancy eating them i,ve seen a few disfigured beaks and puss filled feet ! so i,ll give them a miss .
