1 dig and 1 bolt today

Recommended Posts

i have been trying to get permission on this shooting estate for a while now and today it final happened we could only go on half of the estate because they are shooting the other half of it friday so we will be back next week to do the other half .

we arranged to meet the keeper at 9am and we got there for about 8.45 and the keeper was waiting we had a quick chat then drove to the first lot of holes where we got kitted up collars on the terriers ...

then walked up to the holes where a terrier was entered but nothing was home, so we let one of the pups run the earth knowing it was empty . we moved on up to a wood where there was a false earth again the terrier was entered and she was in about 30 seconds and started to bay, the keeper stood at the other hole and within a minute it bolted and was shot by the keeper .

well done he said and we moved on after we dealt with the fox doing a few more earths in the area with nothing being at home ... we then walked back to the trucks to have a drink and a chat and wait for the rain to pass over after the rain stopped we drove about 3 miles down the road to where there was a 2 holer on a drain side we started to walk down to the holes and got about 100 yards from them and the dogs started going mad the terriers were screaming and my lurcher was whining so i knew there was going to be something home because there was a real strong smell off fox .

when we got to the holes they were well dug out with fresh feeting going in and nothing coming out ,we staked the dogs down and let the terrier off and she flew in the hole she was in a couple of minutes and she started to bay we left her for 5 minutes to settle and then located her at 4 feet we started to dig it took us about half an hour ,good old silty land it was, i broke through and she was right at it , i dug around it and opened it up well blocking the hole behind the bitch so it could not get past her then pulled the bitch out and stood back waiting for it to bolt it did and the keeper shot it .

again dealt with the fox back filled and moved on checking a few more earths to no avail but all in it was a great day out and the keeper was well pleased with us and asked us to do all the fox control from now on and i happily said yes with a big grin on my face ... heres a couple of photos ...
