accuracy testing

my gun was already zeroed bit i was a bit bored this aft so i thought id have a go and see what were the best groups i could get out of this rifle! i'd heard differing views on what effect shortening my barrel would have on "such a light weight" springer, some people reckon that the recoil and flip would be too harsh, coupled with cutting the choke off(if 95's have them!)would ruin accuracy.

anyway,at 25 yards(my garden length! :D ) unlubed H&N ftt's were literally one on top of the other(this was rested.)the group was under a cm in size! more accurate than i usually am,put it that way!!

one thing i did find funny was lubed accupels(i had half of a tin left over from a while ago) were creating a V shaped group? still just acceptable at about just under an inch from top to bottom but in a V shape?

Did you wash the pellets before you Lubed them? could be varying amounts of oil caught with grit dust etc. on the pellets?

I've found a bit of differance in groupings from unwashed to washed pellets with a couple of drops of Lube in a tin.

Also its easy to put too much Lube in a tin ending up with greasy looking pellets. Just a thought.

Cheers

Luke.

the accupells were washed and lubed. but haven't been used for a while(were fine out of my old eclipse!) the accupels are not as tight in the barrel as the H&n's...not loose but not quite as tight.

if you try a few pellet brands out you'll find they group in diferent shapes..

25 yards you should have been in a one hole realy... i sat with a guy with an unmodified HW80 doing 15mm to 20mm groups at 50 yards measured...

theres a bloke on you tube doing one holers at 1200 yards with .50 rifle.doesn't mean we can all do it! :D the h and n's were in near enough a one holer. the accupells stood out because of the larger and funny group.

theres a gener preconseption that no body can shoot.. and they should buy this then that then everything else after woulds..

theres two thing that limit your shooting

1. is you

2. is gun quolity...

the rest is time and effert... like 50 yards with a HW80 hitting the back of a pellet to zero standing? i did it a few years ago when i didnt even know what a yard was.. so...... time and effert..

today i dont get the practice nor can afford the pellets... 24/7 for two years tends to up the anty a wee bit....5 mins a week.. 30 yard inch groups... and a guesed zero (till all your pellets go in back of the other your guesing to that inch group.....). if the pellets wont hit on at 30 the gun or the pellet or the shooters 'out'...needs a gun smith or replacing.

(yeh i'm wank at the mo...72 yarder standing head shot on lamp..50's a usual on a good day...put me on a target i get bored instantly.)

don't get me wrong, the gun IS more accurate than i am!which is why i stick to 35 yards max.

in that case your happy with where your at..if it works no point knocking it. i think the whole point is what do you want from shooting..so... yu know where your at.

95% of my shooting is lamping bunnies so i rarely need to shoot beyond 25/30 yards anyway. (you said 2 things limit your shooting...yourself and gun quality?what about conditions?)

obviously blowing a gail dont help maters lol.. but thats external really.. (there's also pellet quolity, some just wont go past 40..50..60 yards, or through a particular barrel, or power..).

it's all in the head (or heart of you)... think about it, guys with stones were pulling shots..sling shots there's even a survival listing of ways and things... bows, people shot as far as they'd go... then the muskets, taking birds in flight.. then came rifling and bigger charge bullets... right up today and airguns and hi tecky recoilles canons of guns, all with one thing in coman... some body 'pulled the imposable' then some one else was better... always has been always will be.

the average person sits and listens to the average beloney and obsorbs it... the average airgunner can only really shoot at 30 yards and in some places i've read/heard people say an inch group at 25 yards is best you can hope for... hell of a shock to the system when your hitting pellet clacks at 50 yards standing on a daily basis lol...

end of the day, every one has 'there thing'.. if it isnt shooting then practace improves as it does anything, the rest is reality and understanding.. not of what the public rip you off with.. but the real reality.

get your gun tuned and fitted...set the 'right' scope, get the 'right stock' for you then find dont forget the pellets are involved with the tune etc etc..it all adds up....... but! it's your mind and your efferts that make the difference.
