B.L.B 0
I know alot of you guys only run one dog at a time, but over here in Aus its not uncommon fo for guys to run 3 or 4. i have only ever had one male dog at a time and i was just wondering if anyone has had problems with running 2 males at the same time, whether they are more likely to fight over the kill etc.? i know alot of it would come down to them knowing who top dog is but would this always be getting challenged if the bottom (and smaller) of the two dogs is the better hunter and makes the catch first most of the time? Any sensible feed back would be much appreciated. Thanks. Quote Link to post
Guest hpool_hunter
down to the dogs i think , usually its fine , IMO , BUT you may obviously get the * dominant* one ending with the kill , Edited January 13, 2009 by hpool_hunter Quote Link to post

Thanks. i tried running two dogs onone rabbit and most of the time it would result in a tug of war or a fight and the rabbit was often that bruised that it was only good for dogmeat and not the pot so now i only use one dog its a lot less hastle mate Quote Link to post
mad al 146
Always will be a risk, but if the dogs know their pecking order, it's a lot easier I'd say and as already said the flash point is at the kill Quote Link to post
fenman1# 724
depends on the dog really, me and a couple of pals often travel from essex to bedfordshire/peterborough/milton keynes with a few bull xs in the back of the van and travel home with the quarry in the back with them and we have no trouble Quote Link to post
littletimmy 71
Always will be a risk, but if the dogs know their pecking order, it's a lot easier I'd say and as already said the flash point is at the kill I think it depends on the dogs and the way they are brought up, seen plenty of dogs run next to each other perfectly fine. My mates got apair of terriers, kenneled together and perfectly fine with each other 90% of the time if they chase anything together they bite each other as there running funny to watch but annoying as they are more bothered about each other than the quarry Quote Link to post
milo 74
i work both my male lurchers some of the time and big stuff just to be a bit quicker on the kill and not to get them hurt, ive never had any problems with them fighting with each other or fighting with other dogs,i think it could be down to the breed and the way its brought up imo Quote Link to post
tramp1 4
i run my dogs doubled up most of the time [apart from rabbits] never had any problems yet Quote Link to post

Hunting Lad 50
Me and my mates allways run our dogs together never seem to have a problem with them. I thinks it all to do with how much they are used to being around other strange dogs thet aint familar with. Once they know they aint a threat they tend not to be bothered. michaelhunter 4
i know this is abit off the subject but i know a lad with a dog and it is run next to a bitch it runs so much better and puts loads more into the chase dont know if this happens to everyone but it seems a different dog when ran with a bitch. michael Quote Link to post

A dog should be concentrating on the quarry not the dog its running with. Regards Ben. Quote Link to post

bedwhippet 164
In my opinion working 2 male dogs together is fine as my 2 have been out and caught rabbits together and never had a fight over which is dominant... but maybe this is because they are only 11 months old whippet244 Quote Link to post
