I bought tattoo pliers and digits 0 to 9 in USA a few years ago and do all my own pups with 08 for 2008 and will do 09 for this year so that i can recognise them in years to come but dont register them with anyone. I do the pups around 5 weeks old but would be willing to do anyones dog if required. It takes about 5 seconds to do. FIFE area.

But if the dog was lost or stolen how would anyone be able to identify it from a diy tattoo?

good point there. I suppose i'm quite lucky in the fact that i do terrier racing all over and most people know my dogs and everyone that knows me, knows that i tattoo all my dogs. Also i have pictures of all my dogs on my website which i would like to think would help me get them back if the need arose. Mines are also chipped but this can be removed in no time at all.

err what????? to remove a chip you need a reader to find it 1st...how many people do you know that steal dogs and have a reader handy??? Much easier for the unscrupulous to cut off an ear with a tattoo (unless you have lip or thigh tats of couse!). Are you saying the dog wardens in your area all know your dogss? or all the rescue centres so they can reunite you if one gets lost or stolen??? A diy tat may work as proof of ownership but will be useless to reunite/trace owners down. A chip or tat that is with a registered database is really the only safeguard.

I've had my dog tattoed: 'Death before Dishonour'on its chest. 'Death to all Game' on its lips and a snazzy pair of swallows on its front paws. Thinking about getting its nipples pierced too.

Its done very quick,- and you hold the dog steady. !

The price for an adult dog is £10 for the tattoo, and the registration is £15,- total £25.

for a whole litter, its £7 per tattoo and one payment of £20 to register the whole litter.

Hope this helps
