hi all,

there is more than one plauge type world wide but 2 (mentiond above) in the UK. they are carried by rats all types of rats but passed to us MOSTLY by the fleas on the rats. modern day buildings sewars and dwellings means that the rats are not in such close proximity to us humans and our companions (dogs cats etc) so the spread of the fleas from the rats is not so widespread (almost never) therefore the spread of the disease is no existant. over and above that its a reportable disease and modern medicines can combat and cope with its all these and some other factors mean its virtually none existant worl wide. 3rd world countries still get it as they have not yet caught up with us in the above areas!!

regards peter

i have ferretsthat would a few hours shaking rats by the neck and chasing them out to my .410.

The Bubonic Plague was spread by the Tropical rat flea on the Black rat and our Brown rat is host to the European rat flea. The main difference is that the Tropical rat flea easily transfers to the human host wheras the European rat flea mainly lives in the rat burrows and does not particularly like human blood so rarely transfers to us.
