CorkyJohn 808
I see people blaming the credit crunch lately for the abundance of cheap/free pups flooding the for sale section & reckon if you truly believe this ur an idiot. There wouldn't be such a problem if folk were honest with themselves & their stock. Too many people breeding from shit & finding it hard to get rid of the pups. The worst do it for 'hopefully' a quick profit, some think/kid themselves their dogs better than they really are. The decent stock don't require advertising & any spare pups are culled. Its a hard reality but if breeding for your own replacement, homes for pups should be found before they are bred & any not required pts, better knowing where they went than not knowing where/who they were passed onto. The best breeding is the most difficult to get ur hands on & these breeders take the hard line in regards pups & who gets them. i have a 3yr old bitch that has done what I 'expected' of her but not all I 'hoped' she would. She is a good honest bitch & a pleasure to own but unless she somehow improved with age I doubt I'd take a litter from her. Why? Because there are better bitches out there that can do all I hoped for & if she was put to the right dog I'd prefer a pup from those instead. If I did decide she turned out good enough I'd find the best dog possible in 'MY' eyes, place pups with trusted friends & cull the rest. Hard yes but like I said there's enough shit being bred to keep the animal shelters ticking over for a long time ATB John

JPTfellterrier 65
very very well said, i personally couldnt kill the pups myself but i would only sell the pups to trusted friends and get someone to kill the rest, would love to breed from my lurcher or young terrier but would only consider it if they made the grade and would probably wait until they were four or five year old so that they are truley proven and as you said find a very reputable stud the only thing i really hate about this site is ceeing dogs that are being discarded because they dont do fox single handed(preban) for example thatmay be so but my dogs become friends to me, call me soft for getting too attached, but every dog has there faults as much as us people do. i will mention that iam not putting everyone in the same boat here as i know there are some genuine people selling dogs as they can no longer cope or are giving up the hunting game. once again very well said, might be a bit of a reality check for some people

Hard yes but like I said there's enough shit being bred to keep the animal shelters ticking over for a long time ATB John I've got a bitch, bred her myself. I owned her Dam and Sire, she is now 6 years old and never had a littler. Both her and her parents did and still do everything I want and ask of them. I have been putting off breeding her since last year I found the right dog but I won't be breeding her for a few more years as 3-4 pups won't be hard to place at good working homes but more then that I would'nt want to get stuck with them. Very big thing to think about unlike some just breeding shit with shit as soon as the come into season. And people wonder why imo theres not as many good honest big catch Lurchers around. Just my opinion though. MRD. Edited January 13, 2009 by MRD
CorkyJohn 808
Fair enough MRD mate, no one can say you haven't been patient. If I were in your situation I'd breed from her this summer as you can have problems as they get older. It may seem harsh but do your lining & keep what you require & cull the rest. Then you will never have to worry about selling or where pups ended up. Even if I only wanted one pup I'd prob run 2 on then place the other with a friend.
