The Saluki I took on that has been roaming for 9mths has now been here for 4mth. When roaming she was getting left, pkts of beef, chub meat, chews tins of tuna- on different days. Since we've had her shes been wormed (none found) vax'd, frontlined & microchipped. She should have been spayed a fortnight ago but had fluid in her teats so vet said to wait another couple of weeks.

But she's still quite ribby & doesnt seem to be putting any weight on. I stopped all the pkts of ham/beef & chub within 2 weeks of getting her. She's on BETA Sensitive, with chappie & meat with jelly, normally with any chicken, meat that is left from tea. She's a finnicky eater though & at first she was doing ok, now she seams to have lost a bit of weight. She eats part of her tea then goes & eats my older dogs diet food.

What's the best thing to bulk her up a bit & get a few pounds on her so you cant see all her ribs. She's still exercised on flexi lead-purely because she switches off & goes to leg it across open fields.

She's not running enough to be burning off all the goodness in the food

Would appreciate some advice as not had running dog before. My alsation grey is just about right, nice & healthy shiny coat & cant see his ribs sticking out.

I find lamb mince with a handfull of biscuit puts weight also scrambled egg. With some wormer's you won't see any worms they get desolved in the gut (drontel plus)

Thanks, I ve upped the food & meat content. Will do it via 3 meals instead of two. She chucked up tea tonight but I've wormed them all again & put it down to that cos she was alright this morning.

Cant do lamb -cant stand sight or smell of it, so will have to be beef. I cant see her turning her nose up at pies & pasties :)

if the dog was feral try it on the pies and pasties diet that piles wieght on , it easy to get out of date pies and pasties most shops - butchers are glad to get shot of them , as for the recall try an electric collar on the lung line when the dog gets used to a little zap he may just come around , an e collar will focus the attention better than something in the distance thats for sure

evil b*****d f****n electric collar, if you nedd one of them your dogs don't respect you.

may i surgest a 25% carb 75% protien diet, this is the best wat of building lean muscle. afterall these are the atheletes of the dog world and if an athelete wanted to put on some weight this is the diet he would be sticking too not shitty fats as this would only cause poor circulation thus slowing the rate of oxygen getting to the muscles preventing them from working to thier full abilitys.

I must say that extra calories are converted to fat by the body for storage be they fat, protein or carbs at the outsett. I would be interested in what your theory is based on???

my theory is based on the fact that you need carbs to turn the protiens into fat. and that is the best proportions for building lean muscle. also if you've worked your dogs hard or intend working your dogs hard then the best thing to do for them to recover ready for another nights work is to feed them a meal in these proportions no more than 20 mins after they'e finished working. this will help the musclues to repair and recover at a time when they need it most.

You build muscle when the body reacts to stressers ie increased workload if as the dog inquired about was not going for increased exercise so no stressers which means the weight gained will not be lean muscle. Non essential proteins are de-natured into protein or fat if not needed/used to build muscle.

A fat free diet can be dangerous for man or dog.

"shitty fats as this would only cause poor circulation thus slowing the rate of oxygen getting to the muscles preventing them from working to thier full abilitys" (redeye jedi ), excluding cardiac muscle, how does fat slow circulation?

Well two meals including extra mince & she still got squits but this could still be wormer. I'm going to put her on better bicuit as well as getting some tripe. Mams always in shops so known to butchers & fish shop.

Way I look at it is the vets reacon she was 18mth, we know for a fact she;s been out 9mth. She was skin & bone when first seen licking the blood of the grass from fertiliser sprayers. That means she was out from been bout 9mths maybe younger. It's an early age to start with, she;s missed the best food in her early months so need to give her decent stuff now.

If she costs me a bit more then so be it. I dont work her-I dont work any of them they are pets but she's quite a celebrity as not another one round here that we know of

put a peg on your nose and give it raw lamb breast and chicken thighs as said above it really does put weight on them
