Guest little lurcher
SHIT, WAS DOES THIS BAN MEAN?I CANT DO WHAT NOW? THANKS FOR TELLING ME be a numpty all you like, but sadly in a world were antis are all around and much closer than you believe ill stick to being within the law on forums thank you , if you wish to brag and also then show the dog theives where and what your dogs do then go ahead, its not my choice but as a member whom works whippets and have done for many years the whippet is sooooooooooooo underestimated, sadly as with many breeds today shite has been bred to and from and all of a sudden they get labelled showdogs , those of us who are still working our whippets hard and really showing what they can do are the only ones flying the flag for such a versitile breed capable of as much as any average lurcher , they are pot fillers , do a bit of hare bit of fox bit of deer and of course exceptional on rabbits , may i suggest you get out with one of us whom do the real deal and then make a judgement Quote Link to post

shinyspade 2
we all know what the little whippet is capable of. there arnt many breeds that have such a pasionate following but they do have there draw backs. and they are rabbit dogs. anyone that see's whippets out regular will know that rain and wind is hard on em. they are (generally to light) for bigger stuff. they do tear easily. if they was as good as they are made out on here. why are there so many whippet crosses/small lurchers great little dogs but they have there limitations. hence the little crossbred whippet types . whippets are on the up as are the small lurchers. so cheer up nice dog mally Quote Link to post
Pennymeadow Whippets 0
Whippets were bred for catching rabbits first before shows racing or Lure coursing but whats wrong with doing all with the same dogs. Pre Ban Quote Link to post
paddybarr 77
I really want to add to this thread, but experience has taught me over the last few months don't say anything negative about whippets.Carry on everybody and in a few season's time see if you still feel the same way! scared i cat Might be a scared i cat Shiney my man but if people can only see pure brilliance in the night they took the dog out and not over a season, or a lifetime, then give it time and when they are sat on there arse looking at the screen wondering why they are not out hunting, and have paid a fortune out in vet bills for there formula one rabbit dog then maybe they may reflect on things. Whippets are awesome. Shame awesome did not have a long term plan for them. you aint gonna pay any vets fees with your dogs mate, all they do is walk up hills and sit on their fat arses watching rabbit holes oh i forgot they walk down again and were you hunt its very very cold with lots of jaggy rocks last thing you need is a whippet it would die of boredom Edited February 15, 2009 by paddybarr Quote Link to post
Guest reload
Dont kid yourself people, there great dogs, superb in fact, great to watch as keen as mustard and sometimes way too much prey drive for there own good....BUT, aint there always a but. ......I dont believe they will take the knocks, there skin in amazingly thin, they wont hammer through hedges or bounce of wire anywhere near what a more robust x will, and they dont have the weight or frame to regularly take bigger quarry. They are the most sporting dog I have seen on the lamp, but they dont catch or handle the bumps like a good robust lurcher, no matter what people say....... Quote Link to post
lanesra 3,994
As said in posts and shown in photos this breed is capable of more than the uneducated know or want to know, every breed of dog has faults if a thread goes up on any breed we could all look for faults and find them, ive been workin with 3 whippets the last couple of yrs (mine and my 2 mates) and the dogs have surpassed our expectations, the best thing i can say is 3 friends from ireland visited and we took them on the fast rabbits well after they seen the dogs in action (single handed) they where honest enough to admit they where gobsmacked, they said they looked at each other as we took our dogs out of the motor and thought we where takin the piss, we took the piss alright after they told us that.
