Breedwise for egglaying I'd recommend Leghorns (any colour), from a moral point of view get ex battery hens (this is very satisfying) or you could go the rare breeds route. Obviously bantam eggs will be a lot smaller

Keep em well fed n watered & they'll go nowhere (feed em pellets, growers at first then layers if over 20 wks with the odd handful of corn ....... fatten em up and makes eggs taste eggsellent) !!! Neal 1,873
I keep mine in the back section of the garden which is a kind of mini-orchard of around 24' x 24'. I've currently got two bantams but I believe that's about enough space for up to four bantams. However, this is based on having them free-range and not turning the area into a dust bowl in summer and a quagmire in winter. If you have them in portable arks etc then you have more per square yard etc.
MrsChamp606 553
Hello, I live in a normal street in a small town with no land just a garden, but I have built a chicken house with 4 Warrens inside they are excellent layers each laying one a day, they are very friendly and follow me whilst I do the gardening. My puppy Patterdale is broken in to them so they have been a wonderful addition to the family!
