sugartits 1 Posted January 11, 2009 Report Share Posted January 11, 2009 Hi Chaps After spending a joyous weekend in the country at a friends estate over christmas, on my return I decided I'd quite like to get in to this hunting lark so I went and bought myself a couple of lurchers and the cutest little terrier. They've all settled in fine. However, I took them all out today to have a run and catch some rabbits but when I let them off (close to the rabbits) they didn't seem at all interested.....why is this? Sorry to disappoint you mate but theres more to it than buying and turning loose, are you genuine or taking the piss, if not how old are they etc, find someone local who hunts and learn the crack off them. Hi Whippet X Thanks for getting back to me. They're 16 months, brother and sister (Awwww). crosses???? I think the breeder said something about greyhound and collie. One's brown and black and the girl, Twinkle is white and blue.....so pretty. arcticgun 4,548 Posted January 11, 2009 Report Share Posted January 11, 2009 The breeder told me they take rabbits and that they would do more.....I've got a feeling I've been had :-( Get yourself a decent lurcher book mate and have a read up on training your pups, most basic training will apply to the terrier as well, don't give up on the dogs, train them, allow them to be puppies, walk them out twic a day, once old and trained enough, take em where there is plenty of quarry and let nature take its course, dont get disheartened if they dont catch straight away, its all in their just takes time and patience to come out, personaly I wont be gutted if my pup catches nowt before shes 18 month, rome was not built in a day, hope you get their mate, atvb Richard Quote Link to post Share on other sites

yorkshirelad2 24 Posted January 11, 2009 Report Share Posted January 11, 2009 the best way to bring a dog on is to go ferreting & catch a few live rabbits in the nets then go to a field and drop them in front of your dog. and i will give you a tip on how to get your dog retriving, get some rabbit skin and wrap it round a bottle or a chunk of wood throw it for your dog and demand it for it back, take a few treats and every time it gives you it back. it will start to do the same thing on rabbits and haeres. its a piss take got to be Quote Link to post Share on other sites
