Guest buster
You wont go far wrong with a good old fashioned russell.. .Millet What bloodlines have you got? Ive put russell into my patterdales Quote Link to post
Guest MOLLY
My Patt x border has a hell of a nose, can follow scent over water. Millet can vouch, i dont think she has ever false marked yet?. Closely followed by the Lakie. Then the Lakie x border has the worst MOLL. Quote Link to post
patterdalepaul 0
got a 3/4 patt, 1/4 staff, very good nose & pattxruss also good, i think most dogs have a good nose, but if they choose to use it, well thats a different kettle of fish... JMO Quote Link to post
Guest buster
I havent got russell's at the moment mate but ive nocked about with them for year's from being a kid.Me and a mate used to do a lot of night shooting with the air rifle's and he would take his russel..and now and again it would sniff the air and mark the tree's for pheasant...when the bird was shot and stuck up a hawthorn the dog would try to climb it which it did on some occasion's to retrieve the bird.. But at the end of the day mate just about all terrier's have decent noses if they are given the opportunity to excersise it.. .. Millet You are 100% right there [bANNED TEXT] It is what the dog has learnt from a owner from a early age, there is no such thing as a bad dog. Quote Link to post

Guest buster
dont take the piss cose ime serious ......... a staff ! . my bitch has an exellent nose mates take the mic saying she must have some spaniel in her lol Staffs are quite good, the irish staff are a working dog, i knew someone who had one and it had a wicked nose on it. That why they put staffs or pitbulls into greyhounds to give them stamina, thats why nuttal and many different breeders have put them into there terriers for there hunting abilitys. Nell 1
My patterdale bitch has an excellent nose, I do ALOT of flushing out of cover for the lurcher and this bitch never seems to fail, she has never false marked (as far as I can remember!) she has followed the scent and found quarry in some unbeleivable places, it really is a joy to watch, I would trust this bitch 100% I also have a border/lakey type bitch she has a good nose also but the patterdale is by far the better. Another thing in my patterdales favour she is the type of terrier to actually USE her nose properly, she just mooches along quite slowly until she gets a strong scent, the border/lakey can get a bit excited whilst on a scent and often rushes about a little too wildly but she is also the younger of the two so hopefully she wll get better in time Quote Link to post
