Tyla 3,179
i have lived and travelled alot in southern africa and have always wondered about the dogs there. They are mostly stray or feral but can be kept as pets or hunting dogs by the locals. We have a house in tanzania and while we were living there we collected a few as yard dogs. They tend to be yellowish in colour with some being pied and are of medium size. i always fancied putting one across a greyhound or whippet as they are very hardy, clever, game dogs. They are used with nets for hunting small antelope and wild pigs by the locals so i think they would do the job. i will try and get some pics up although our dogs are not the best examples as we tended to collect the waifs and strays Quote Link to post
jakeuk1 0
Ive seen uk bred Ibizan Hounds race and they seem slow, definately not up to 40mph maybe the native ones have more speed. the Kazakh Tazi/Saluki looks an amazing dog. did you see it work? Quote Link to post

Unfortunately I was there in september too early in the season for hunting it was still very hot. I saw some video of them working though. They hunt over a huge range of different terrain some of basically rubble on the steppes some hills and woods not that different my own area. I hope to go back the next few years in the dead of winter to see some hunting. Quote Link to post

And I'm sure, (even though the Poles vigorously deny it), that the Saluki, Sloughi, Afghan, Tazi, Chartpolski, Borzoi, et al, come from the same origional middle eastern stock ! Cheers.
